This is a bit of an odd one, but it appears as though many PS3 users are being hit by a bug causing all of their PSN friends to disappear from their friends list, meaning that no other players will show up in that section of the XMB.
If you do a quick search on twitter, you’ll see a lot of people saying that their friends list has disappeared, and everyone seems a bit confused with the situation.
In fact, I’ve just checked myself, and between three PS3s, the full friends list is only appearing on one of them, with the other two showing zero friends. After a restart, another is showing the full friends list but the third system remains lonely on PSN.
This will obviously cause issues with people wishing to play online, particularly with popular games such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto which use the XMB’s friends list as an invite system.
Our suggestion is to restart your PS3, but if the problem persists as it does with one of mine, then you’ll just have to wait for a solution. It’s very strange that these issues are appearing almost seven years after the launch of the PS3.

What’s the fuss about? the Playstation website account details friends and trophies has been broken for 6 years and this is only one day of XMB friends not showing up. Don’t sweat it. {:’o

Hi,
I fixed this by:
1.Go to Trophys
2.Press Triangle and go to Switch Modes.
3.Press X and go to offline (while online on psn)
4.Then go again to online mode.
5.Sign out.
6.Sign in and DONE!
NOTE: I used this method and it worked for me as my friend told me to but it may not work for you, if it doesn’t don’t be worried as im sure sony will fix this :)

All 100 of my contacts (PS3,) vanished this evening. 2mths on & still happening.

I had the same thing last night – Kinda freaked me out actually!
I know i haven’t gotten a PS4 yet, but it didn’t seem like a valid excuse for all of my friends to delete me at the same time! ;)
I was only playing a sp game last night, so no skin off my nose in terms of that, but i would like to return to GTA online at some point & it would be nice if i at least had the option of some friends to join!

I’m brilliant! I figured how to fix it. You go to your users, log into another account. Wait until the other user’s friends list comes up. Go back to the user which the friends list doesn’t show up and bam its there! Tada! #Brilliance
