Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the upcoming superhero fighting game from Arc System Works and PlayStation, will be blocked from sale in 132 countries on Steam, thanks to the requirement and use of PlayStation Network.
With the game set to launch in early August, it’s now been spotted via SteamDB that the game will not be available in 132 countries, in a fashion strikingly similar to the aborted imposition of PSN requirements on Helldivers 2. Helldivers 2 was actually set to be blocked in 177 countries, so this is technically an improvement, though.
Just as in 2024, it would seem that this is down to Marvel Tokon being heavily reliant on PlayStation Network, and PSN not technically being available in these countries. For that reason, the game cannot be sold to those countries, blocking possible fans from across the Middle East, Africa, Caribbean nations, and Central Asia from playing. Oh, and the Vatican.
That’s right, the pope cannot buy Marvel Tokon, though I imagine he could get one of his cardinals to set up a VPN for him.
While this is technically quite old news – the restrictions were put in place back in February when pre-orders went live – it’s emerged alongside a number of other pressing matters for PlayStation’s fanbase. Namely, disc pressing. Sony announced the end of physical disc production, the latest effort to shutdown the PS3 and PS Vita stores, has also been heavily criticised for the removal of previously purchased digital films from people’s libraries, and PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino has just talked about how they’ll be using AI in game development going forward.
Needless to say, the atmosphere in PlayStation and general gaming social spaces online are absolutely putrid right now, and this won’t help matters.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will launch on 6th August 2026 for PS5 and PC.
