The Bureau: XCOM Declassified & Bioshock 2 Developer Hit With Layoffs

A substantial number of employees at 2K Marin, the developer behind the recently released The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, and previously Bioshock 2 – have been laid off, Polygon are reporting.

2K have confirmed what they’re calling “staff reductions” with a representative saying “we regularly evaluate our development efforts and have decided to reallocate creative resources”.

Whilst the exact number of staff affected is unknown, the site is quoting “sources familiar with the matter” as saying a “majority” of the former team has now been laid off, and that for all intents and purposes 2K Marin is closed.

It’s not entirely doom and gloom however, as some of the departing team are now said to be joining the newly formed Bay Area 2K studio, which is headed up by Rod Fergusson, the producer of Bioshock Infinite.

As always, we here at TSA wish everyone affected by this news the very best of luck in all future endeavours.
