Sony Kicks Off “Since ’95” Campaign, Focuses On #4thePlayers Hashtag

I’ve been with PlayStation since about 1998. That’s not quite the 1995 – the launch of the original console – that the title of this advertising campaign focuses on, but I think that’s understandable since I was two years old when Sony’s first gaming system released.

Now, eighteen years later, Sony are celebrating the countdown to the launch of the PS4 with a look at their heritage, over on a dedicated section of PlayStation.com whether you’ve been here since 1995 or are just about to enter the world of PlayStation with their fourth home console.

The first part of this is a film that spans the almost twenty years of PlayStation, which you can see below. Hopefully this will resonate with you – that seems to be the idea – and you’ll get a twinge of nostalgia as you watch. Oh, and we’re told that you should keep an eye on the order that the PlayStation symbols appear in, for your chance to win a PS4 over on the official Since ’95 site.

This follows the very successful twitter campaign back in February, where #PlayStationMemories trended all day before the PS4 announcement. That’s just one moment in PlayStation’s history, and there will be many more to come.

What do you think of this unique approach to advertising? Have you been with PlayStation since 1995?

  1. The main thing that struck me was how messy the room was!

  2. This was fantastic, brought back so many memories. I moved over to xbox because of friends, but i feel like a tratior being reminded of great times lol!

Also feels like thats my youth i cant have back and they are now just memories then it gets depressing lol wanting a time machine…

  3. I owned the NES then SNES and was wanting the N64 but it had a big delay so switched to Sony when the first PS was released, been a fan ever since.

  4. I can still remember the start up noise of the Playstation 1 and the count down noise of the races on Gran Turismo. Cool advert. Would have been better if they had shown a few more games from each generation.

  5. That was an awesome advertisement! Brought back so many good memories, I was 13 back in 1995 and that Christmas I got the PS1. Still to this day love the start up noise for the PS1, i even have the noise as my message tone on my phone.

  6. LOVED my PS1, hated my PS2, missed out on the PS3, GAGGING to get to grips with the PS4.

  7. Excellent Ad that. Shows good promise for the PS4 campaign.

  8. According to the box, I still have a SCPH-1002 B PlayStation 1, I got it for Christmas if I recall correctly, it is a while ago.

That little grey box and his brothers have cost me a lot of money over the years, and I fed them far too many discs. Hungry little blighters.

I just hope the latest in the line is more reliable than the oh-so-shiney 3rd variant.

Its really sad, but I do miss my launch PS3. now I don’t have a complete set.

  9. i got the order but how do i enter it on the website .__. anyone? i’ve been raping my mouse for hours.. help?
