Don’t expect Titanfall to come to PlayStation next year, or even the year after that, or any time at all really unless it’s in the next next generation where super high definition remakes of first person shooters are the norm.
You see, in a conference call to investors, EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen said that Titanfall is “for the life of the title” exclusive to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, rather than a timed console exclusive for Microsoft’s platforms.
Previously, Microsoft’s Larry Hryb said that he was “not worried” about the fact that the game may make its way to opposing platforms, so it seems likely that was because he knew there wasn’t going to be a PS4 version after all.
Titanfall will release on March 13th 2014 in European territories, and comes with a £250 collector’s edition. So they’ll lose out on quite a bit of those if they’re not releasing PlayStation versions.

UPDATE: Vince Zampella of Respawn Entertainment who are developing the title has tweeted revealing that he didn’t find out about this exclusivity deal until recently, saying that it was only exclusive at launch for focus reasons and the rest was EA’s deal.
Always MS exclusive at launch, great partner and focus is good for a startup. EA made a deal for the rest, we only found out recently =(

He went on to confirm that it’s only the first Titanfall that’s exclusive to the platform – it seems to be something similar to the Mass Effect situation we had this generation.
@AdanGarciaG Of course we will, just not the first Titanfall.

So, Titanfall 2 on PS4? Yes please.
hol
You know, I’m not that fussed if that’s the case. I’ll be playing Killzone & Battlefield anyway. :)
Bilbo_bobbins
bang on, Killzone will knock the socks off that game anyway I think. Titanfall hasn’t really impressed me so far.
SH Number 7/Mini-Lipscombe
Are you serious? I don’t think Killzone looks interesting at all, Titanfall on the other hand looks like something that could shake up the FPS genre like Halo or CoD4.
TheDemocrodile
Interesting but not something i see as critical. Games such as CoD and Battlefield have the FPS market fairly cornered on consoles.
What i find interesting is the PC version (natch), It’s not like Microsoft to allow an exclusive to appear on another platform at all (see Forza), a response to SteamOS perhaps?
gazzagb
Respawn are independent of MS, it’s not like they’re a Microsoft 1st party studio, MS did the exclusivity deal with EA. And EA will still be happy because they can make it an Origin exclusive so it won’t appear on Steam.
rama26285
What does “for the life of the title” even mean? Does that mean that Titanfall 2 won’t be exclusive? I find it a very weird way of describing exclusivity.
Kivi95
No only the first Titanfall.
Shadow-King
Seems like a silly “tactical” move for a 3rd party company in this day and age. Oh well, I can always play it on my PC.
DarkLord
Microsoft really are evil, how anti consumer. The fall they are having right now is week deserved and long overdue. EA will also cone of badly as a result of this anti consumer deal.
Starman
Ha ha. You crack me up!
Starman
Are Sony also evil & anti consumer for uncharted, flow, journey, flower, beyond & the last of us all being exclusive?
OneShotWook
Forgive me if i’m wrong Starman but i believe those are Sony studios whereas this particular title obviously isn’t a microsoft studio.
Generally studios=good, buying out a title=something only microsoft seems willing to do(evil?).
Starman
Flow, journey & flower were paid exclusives with the indie that did them, not sure about the others. Just found HG/Darklord’s language way ott.
OneShotWook
Ah i did wonder where Huntergatherer was hiding, right back to it then:).
Eldave0
Wow, that’s huge news. Like Microsoft or not, Titanfall is a system seller and I would imagine it will win a lot of “Game of the Year” awards next year. The fact you can only get it on Microsoft platforms will shift a lot of X1’s
Blue Heeler
I’m not seeing anything spectacular about Titanfall that I can’t already get tenfold in Planetside 2. It just looks too small in scale in comparison. Only thing missing are mechs that seem to explode too easily.
OnlineAssassinOA
It was the one game I found interesting for x1 but wouldn’t buy one to play it,prefer the exclusives and amount of them that PlayStation brings.
Starman
It certainly looks impressive on what I’ve seen. And the gameplay is quite original for a fps.
double-o-dave
I’d be a bit sceptical about it being GOTY. The few people I know who are getting XBone’s are all talking about BF4, COD or Forza and weren’t even aware of what Titanfall is. I think a certain so-called Major is hyping this up to be more than it is.
jimmy-google
As it’s an always online game that will put a lot of people (like myself off). It’s far from a system seller for me. There’s a lot of competition and alternatives in it’s genre. It seems to be one of the few new IP on the Xbone so I can see the benefit for EA and MS to have the first one an exclusive.
I certainly don’t see it as a GOTY contender especially with a lot of 2014 games still be announced (mostly likely one from Naughty Dog too). Exclusives rarely win those anyway, unless they’re not voted by the public.
Dom El
It’s the only game that’s tempting me to buy an Xbone – but then £430+ is a lot to play one game!
JR.
Online only means I wouldn’t have bought this anyway but it’s a shame they aren’t releasing a HD version on the PS4 for those that do want it.
TSBonyman
I hope the next Mass Effect game isn’t online-only.
ron_mcphatty
Seems like an odd decision by EA, you’d expect them to hedge their bets on the next generation. Fair enough they’re making deals with Microsoft for the launch and near future, but if they’re confident in selling lots of copies of Titanfall why restrict themselves to only selling it on XBox when developers are saying the platforms are similar and cross-development costs are presumably going to fall?
Something’s going on, I think Microsoft are behind this and they’re hoping Titanfall will become the next generations Gears of War or even Halo equivalent.
Starman
1. The payment for the exclusive deal means EA already have made money back before a copy has been sold.
2. How much would it sell on ps4 anyway? Competing with CoD, BF4 & Killzone?
