Spotted anything you like in this week’s store update? If so, you might be pleased to know you’re now able to top-up your PlayStation Network account using Paypal, straight from your PS3.
Crediting that £29.99 for Angry Birds via Paypal is a doddle too, simply select “Add Funds” from the checkout, then choose “PayPal” to add the desired amount. Obviously you’ll need a Paypal account, but with their own added security measures and fraud guarantees, this may well be more suited to customers who don’t trust Sony with their card details.

Why would someone who doesn’t trust Sony with their card details go anywhere near PayPal?
A company who seem to think “security” means “protecting PayPal at all costs”.
A company with “security” procedures that are so laughably useless (except in protecting PayPal) that it’s amazing they’re actually allowed to handle cards.
Possibly there’s my recent experience of PayPal making me a bit more biased than normal. (Which is all I can say without offending everyone with the language. Including myself)

Or PayPal being completely incompetent, having hilariously shit security procedures that do completely the opposite and actually costing people money?
I’ve had PayPal happily ignore the money in my PayPal account and take it from my bank account instead. Money that wasn’t there, costing me in bank fees. My bank account is obviously not connected to my PayPal account now.
And I recently had a fun incident with them where they thought my account had been compromised in some way and it wasn’t me logging in. So at this point they make me change my password and set a security question. Which would be great if it really wasn’t me, and someone else had managed to log in to my account. During the process of getting access to my account back, you also can’t delete any bank account or card details they have. Which is obviously to protect PayPal.
I’d trust Sony with these things about 1052 times as much as I’d trust PayPal.

A fair few people did have money taken from their accounts, there was a regular poster here who did. Can’t remember who though. The problem is you can’t prove where they got the details from so you can’t say for sure and its not like they’re going to tell you. I’ve never read a story about PayPal problems besides when anonymous ddos’ them.

I set up my PayPal account as an authorised recipient and then transfer money electronically to my PayPal account from my bank account. Then, using the web store, transfer from PayPal to PSN wallet.
Voila! No credit card. No risk. I only keep minimal amount in either account.
Nice to add this to the PS3 store as well but it’s pretty redundant considering purchasing anything through the web store is a lot easier than navigating the PS3 store.

Can you now top up less than £5? That’s what the store needs, shelling out a fiver to get some bit of DLC that costs £1.19.

My PayPal account is funded from my credit card, which gives you a double layer of protection.

This is a godsend.
I moved from the UK to Canada a while back. Now that my wages are paid into a Canadian bank account it makes sense that I’d try to add my Canadian credit card to the account… Nope, no can do! The Store does not allow foreign cards.
If I want to buy something on the store it is such a pain in the ass. I have to transfer money to an old English account, with currency costs of course.
Hopefully this’ll make the purchases less complicated as I can now pay through my Canadian accounts.

This feature was actually added 6 months ago so I’m surprised the topic has only just popped up. It’s handy, but then where security is concerned I always use remote top ups of PS Plus and store credit; keeps things clean.
I suppose it’s good for more instantaneous purchases as opposed to top up codes.

Nope. It was added to the WEB Store six months ago. You could never use PayPal straight from the PS3 … until now.

It would be interesting what the stats are on people keeping card details on their psn accounts before and after the hack. Not that Sony would release info like that.

yeah, I prefer PSN cards as you can normally get a little discount.
