Assassin’s Creed’s lead designer, Jean-Sebastian Decant, has been talking to GameReactor about Assassin’s Creed IV and the path down which the series could go down next, at least gameplay wise. The push for a more social experience is definitely on the cards, as the trend continues to gain pace.
“I think we’re going toward a gaming place where the open world will be shared with other players. More and more. Socially speaking, but also maybe multiplayer stuff. And we will have to consider the open world much more like a platform that we could sustain for years.”
It’s an interesting statement that can be taken a few ways, with the social side possibly eluding to having records shown on how your friends did in a mission and how well or quickly they executed it. Multiplayer wise could easily implement social features as much of the ground work is there.
However the most interesting part of the statement is thinking about the open world like its own platform. This could work similarly to the likes of Grand Theft Auto Online with incremental updates that add new features and missions, or allowing players to run around the map freely.
Of course none of this is confirmed to be a part of the next Assassin’s Creed title but it is interesting to think about how the series could evolve.

An assassins creed MMORPG would be pretty cool. Easily possible on next gen (or is it classed as this gen now?)

I was wondering, as I don’t know the franchise well enough… is there scope for group missions like in GTA V? Does that feel believable from a character sense? Some of the best times online, with GTA, are doing the 1-4 player missions with friends.

I would imagine this should be ideal for group missions etc. A creed of assassins… you distract the guard, you lure the guards dog off a cliff with a steak and I’ll grope his missus, err, I mean assassinate the target.

A scaled down version of some of the multiplayer modes could work well and something similar to the missions that are currently open on GTA online would be do-able and would be awesome

Open World. 64 Players. Pirates vs Ninjas.

Just for the record, plural is ninja. But I didn’t notice until I’d hit submit.

I’m glad we’ve cleared that up. :)

This concept could work well. In fact, get Ubisoft on the blower, I’ve got an idea:
They could do something along the lines of a game set in the present where you can build your characters skills etc, then release (paid I guess) download maps for each era/settings with different missions which you access through the Animus with your online character.

Actually what about the Abstergo building where you could find different Animus to plug into with different era’s, also have two factions pro-templar and pro-assassin. Trying to spot who is who
