iBuyerPower Reveal Their Steam Machine Prototype

PC developer iBuyPower has revealed the first image of their prototype Steam Machine and it’s a rather unexciting white box.

However it is the insides that count and the prototype includes a multicore AMD CPU, an AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card, a 500 GB hard drive, bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities, all wrapped up in the new Steam OS.

The system is said to be able to run all Steam titles in 1080p resolution at 60fps and has a price tag of $499 (plus tax, one would assume).

  1. Did they get the same designer as the XBOX ONE???!!?

“I went for the box look”.

    • “Xbox – colour off!”

    • Looks like a ham sandwich bought from a trailer that’s a little too close to Chernobyl. :-/

  2. Looks like a ps4 but not slanted.

I’m keeping an eye on this, am interested indeed. Looks sexy

  3. I have just realised how the Steam logo at the correct angle can look a little like a gents member. Just saying.

    • Hmmm. If you think that’s normal, might I suggest a visit to your registered physician? ;)

      • Having read the rest of the comments, it seems like you’re not the only one. Either I lack imagination, or there are a lot of guys out there who have to walk funny…

    • Ha! Thats the first thing i thought when i saw the pic!

  4. Very nice. I can’t quite see the pattern etched on top, is it the steam logo or a knob?

  5. Got a bit of a ‘HAL 9000’ look about it there…

It will only be able to run the ones that support linux, no?

  7. Pretty.

  8. Am I the only one to notice that the insignia on top of the box looks like a blokes genitals?

  9. I thought i saw this with a green light somewhere, must have different indicator states?

    • There’s two different models, one called “Gordon” and the other “Freeman”. Both are identical apart from the colour of the light strip.

  10. to be honest, i quite like the design.
