Studio Liverpool Rises From The Ashes As Firesprite

When Studio Liverpool was shut down over a year ago there was a lot of shock in the community and industry. After all it was one of Sony’s biggest and oldest first party developer, with the WipEout series being a major pinnacle in its stable, among many others.

However there is now good news for fans of the studio as some of the former Studio Liverpool team has reunited under the Firesprite banner, and they’ve already worked on a PS4 title by helping Studio Japan with The Playroom. The studio is hard at work on its first title though whether it will be an exclusive or multi-platform remains to be see, as Firesprite is an independent studio not tied to any platform holder.

If you’re hoping for a new WipEout for the new generation then you shouldn’t hold your breath as that is probably not the game Firesprite are working on, at least that’s whats the statement by Graeme Ankers, the Managing Director, seems to suggest.

“I don’t know where this journey is going to take us. Ultimately, we love these games, but the decision isn’t ours. WipEout is a special game. Its soul comes from Liverpool’s development history.”

I look forward to seeing what Firesprite bring to the table, and I hope the studio has a long future.

  1. Would be a bit silly if they get shut down, form a new studio, then get into bed with Sony again.
I’d expect them to push for multiplat on their major releases personally.

  2. I long so much for a PS4 WipEout, though I just can’t see who’ll be making it :(

  3. New Rollcage would be nice.

  4. Will be very interesting to see what they come up with.
