20 Million Minutes Of Live PS4 Gameplay Has Been Broadcast

It seems that one of the key features of the PlayStation 4 has been rather popular, namely the ability to broadcast a live stream of whatever you are playing.

Sony has revealed that there has been nearly 800,000 gameplay broadcasts and more than 7.1 million spectate sessions via Twitch and Ustream. This adds up to more than 20,000,000 minutes of gameplay – or if you prefer, 333,333 hours, or 13,888 days, or roughly 462 months or 38.5 yrs.

Here are a few more stats:

  • According to Ustream, each broadcast last for an average of 31 minutes
  • Twitch reports that 10% of all content broadcast via its platform since 15th November has come from PS4 systems
  • PS4′s Share Menu has been accessed 10.9 million times since launch

Personally I didn’t think I would use the feature at all but it’s actually quite fun broadcasting Killzone and having spectators.

Have you used the share button? Let us know the comments.

  1. Used it a couple of times just to show friends who are undecided on buying a next gen console a taster. Personally I think it’ll be more useful when we can upload to YouTube, though clearly i’m in a minority and there are lots of people who like the broadcast feature.

Bet the ISPs are loving this! ;)

    • Tried out the ‘broadcast’ but I too will use it more when YouTube is available.

  2. I’ve watched quite a few broadcasts since I downloaded Twitch on my phone. Before the PS4 launch I didn’t even know what Twitch was.
Can you broadcast just to friends? I’m a bit of a newb when it comes to the Ustream/Twitch/Share button thing.

  3. Obligatory http://www.plystn.com/ pimpage.

    • Sweet. Can you add BF4?

      • Cheers for the link Nofi ;)
Up to now I’ve only used the share button to upload a few video clips to show off to my mates on Facebook but I reckon that I’ll use it more when YouTube uploading becomes available.

    • Cheers, saves searching for stuff.

    • cool, just a shame Twitch won’t work on PS3.

  4. I need to remember to hit the broadcast button more often, my connection should be able to handle streaming at best quality.

There doesn’t seem to be an indicator as to stream quality until after you’ve loaded it up, also if someone’s having issues there’s nothing that tells them they’re broadcasting a slideshow.

Other than those niggles it’s a nice feature.

  5. wow, that is alot. I’ve done it a few times and had a few people watching, its quite fun.

  6. I have my own and its called – ‘Crazy Del’s Gaming Cave!’
My first LIVE was Need For Speed Rivals which probably clocked around 2hrs of it including me nabbing the Platinum with just only one viewer whoever that was lol. I did have 15 until my Broadcast got cut off for no reason, lost all veiwers and only one (If that was the same person) returned or a new random joined.
I will Broadcast again when I nab Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Platinum on multiplayer (To prevent everyone not seeing the the story, so Multiplayer will be a safe move to Broadcast when I reach Level/Rank 55)
I am loving share button including tweeting and What’s New in game pics. Gotta love this – #PS4Share – It has some stunning pics from all gamers all over.

    • Is your gaming cave paved with platinum?

  7. Not really used it. Tried it briefly but didn’t really understand it.

Watched some videos but the quality was really crappy or is that just my internet?
