Here at TSA, we’re always keen to hear what you think. Having you be a part of the discussion is a huge contributing factor to why we do what we do. So we read all the comments, browse the forums and interact with many of you via Twitter too.
We’ve been noticing a few comments pop up asking about Cross Buy, PlayStation’s scheme whereby purchasing a game from the PSN will bag you all of the available versions of that game. So, for example, if you bought the PS3 version of Guacamelee! then you’d also be able to download the Vita version and play it on the go.
This is often a great way for existing PS3 owners to augment their game collections when they become new Vita owners. Many of us already had the sublime Flower from thatgamecompany on our PS4s at launch simply because we bought and enjoyed the game on PS3.
But we were wondering if Cross Buy made a real difference to how attractive a game is to potential purchasers (that’s you!)? There’s only one sure way to find out: with a lovely little poll.
Let us know your stance on the question below and we’ll be back next week to let you know the results. I might even make a fancy chart.

If there is a game that is shown interest for a while, as long as it doesn’t reveries to bad I’ll buy it. PSABR taught me a lesson I think. Not that it was bad it was just average. Do is not the be all and end all of me buying a game.

I’d have liked an extra option for this one …
“If a game on the PSN Store is not Cross Buy, are you:”
In some cases I’m actually less likely to buy. Example Terraria. I’d quite like to buy it but would like the option to play on both PS3 and PSV. That doubles the price to £24-odd. I’m not happy paying that much. So by not being Cross Buy I won’t buy the game until it’s on sale for both platforms.
I’d be interested to hear from some developers on how easy Sony make it to support this. I.e. how much code is re-useable. Are they able to develop both simultaneously etc. Are there tools which really help provided by Sony?

I think the only thing that makes me ever so slightly wary of purchasing anything on PSN is PS+ as it’s proven on many occasions to be worth to wait.
Maybe if they stated that if something is cross-buy then it wont appear on PS+ (but maybe PS+ gets a discount) then I’d be happy.
Cross buy with cross save and cross play is a brilliant link between PS4 and Vita (or the old PS3 and Vita).

Yeah ditto – I did just buy Hotline Miami though and expect that to be on Plus before too long, but I got bored of waiting and its only £6.
As for cross buy – I really don’t care if its cross buy or not. Its only really affected me when a PS3 game is cross buy on Plus and I’ve got it on Vita. I don’t actively seek cross buy versions.

I’ve not really been to bothered wit the whole cross-buy thing. the only one i think ive actually paid for was Hotline Miami, and I struggle with the fast play of that…
If i really want the game i’m going to get it regardless. If it happens to be cross buy all the better.

I’m only going to buy a game once, as a result there is no advantage is not having cross-buy. But, having it definitely increases my interest.

Exactly what I think.

I don’t have a Vita, so not hugely fussed. It was a nice bonus having Flower/Fl0w on my PS4 for free, but going forward, I’m never gonna want to play any new games on my PS3, as well as my PS4.

Agreed 100% what’s the point of next gen if current gen gets same games too

Yes, yes, yes! We need more titles to be cross buy! Much more tempted to buy them at a higher price if I get it in more than one format for a single purchase. Needs to have cross save as well though ideally, and / or a separate trophy list. That way you get the most out of the deal.

They last question, I know only of one platform so had to lie
Bilbo_bobbins
There should be a question asking whether you have more than one system. Like myself, I don’t so I am not bothered but cross buy, but if I had a Vita (which I might well do soon) then my answers would be the opposite.

I haven’t been able to take advantage of Cross Buy yet despite some of my games being ready to support it like Flower and Playstation All Stars but when I get a Vita and PS4 I will greatly appreciate it. It obviously depends on the game itself but if it suits being on multiple systems then its very fair and actually encourages people to buy that game, rather than having to get it again on seperate systems.
Its certainly something that the other two companies should look into a lot more, can’t hurt them to try can it?
