Tomorrow was going to be quite exciting. We all knew the PS Vita Slim (2000 model) was coming, after it was revealed and released in Japan a few months ago, but it would be nice to see Sony surprise us or reveal it on their own terms.
Now ShopTo have sent out a newsletter which lists the “new PS Vita”. A slim console, available to pre-order and also announced tomorrow. Well, if it hasn’t been announced why did they include it, knowing that full well?
It’s hardly the end of the world, and we’ll still see the announcement tomorrow at some point between 9 and 11AM. Let’s hope Sony can turn the system around with a new – and more colourful – model introduced to the UK and US markets.
We’ll be at the event, so keep an eye on our twitter feed for some reporting from the event as it comes and then a news post on the site once we’ve learned everything we can about the system.
Maybe we’ll even see PS Vita TV too.

Turn it around? I thought the Vita was doing ok…?

It’s alright, but in terms of sales it’s nowhere near 3DS (or PSP for that matter).

I don’t have one, but I’ve got bloody loads of games for it through PS+. When I manage to convince the wife that a PS4 is a necessity the next job is to talk her into how a Vita will make our life better. The whole remote play thingy is very appealing – I think this will help sony sell bucket loads. I hope so anyway.

Remote play works really well, worth getting a Vita for that alone.

Like SamBeThyName I have loads of games for this but no Vita yet. The PS4 link up seems to be a big selling point for me too.
The trouble is I never used my PSPGo enough to justify the upgrade to this version.

I barely used my PSP, bit after getting a vita in anticipation of remote play I’ve poured countless hours into it, it’s a wonderful system.

The 68% bump in sales during the PS4 launch was a great start.

I’m gonna get a Vita very soon! Love em!

Just hope they don’t discontinue the oled screen model.

I’ve also got a stack load of games from ps plus waiting to purchase a vita, but can someone tell me whether it would be better to get an old model (I assume they will come down in price with the new one out) or the new one. I don’t care about looks. Heard the screens were better on the old ones? Is there any advantage in getting the new slim. (in terms of functionality, power, memory etc) Or would picking an old model up be preferable? It would mostly be for use at home, with connecting to the PS4? Not used much out of the house.

Also how well does remote play work when you’re not at home and on a different network to your ps4?

I don’t know about remote play but I think the new ones screen is great, not as incredibly rich as the OLED but all the reviews that say it’s still excellent are right :) It’s a good bit lighter, I think it’s much easier to hold because of the rear texture and thinness, and the battery lasts a good couple of house longer which is definitely noticeable. The onboard memory seems completely useless, which is a shame, ideally that would’ve stored saves and any extra memory games but what actually happens is once you put a memory card in you see a little message saying the internal memory won’t be used. It’s good, I love it :)

ShopTo have apparently said it’ll cost £189, that’s a few quid more than I expected and a full £70 more than I paid to import one, which makes the Japanese X-O menu confusion seem totally worth it! If the retailers can get it down to the 3DS price range with a game by this Christmas I think they’ll be on to an absolute winner, it really is a beautiful little unit.

Its more money? that mental, i assumed there was going to be a price drop. bugger.

I think that’ll just be a placement holder price put in place, with it costing 19,000 yen around £115 in Japan they’ll surely have have to price the unit accordingly over here in Europe, otherwise it’ll be a case of GUN-FOOT- TRIGGER-BANG! which I think they’ve learnt from in the recent past!
I think that one of the best improvements with the new slim Vita as well as the obviously great battery life improvement has to be the switch to micro USB port for charging and data transfer, far more flexibility and usefulness!
