Following on from their recent move to start publishing indie games, Team17 have just announced a deal to publish The Escapists. This comes off the back of The Escapists successfully reaching its modest Kickstarter goals at the end of last year, reaching the multiplayer stretch goal in the process, as well as zipping through the Steam Greenlight process in just a matter of days.
It’s a prison escape game, currently only set for a PC release later this year, in which you have to formulate a plan to pull off a successful escape, whilst sticking to the prison’s routine and staying under the guards’ radar. If you ask me, it looks like Pokémon’s art style crashed headlong into the open-ended breakout possibilities of The Great Escape, The Shawshank Redemption and countless other prison escape films.
We’ll be off to see this in person at EGX Rezzed, late in March, but before then, I’ve got to get some prison blueprints tattooed on my back. It won’t hurt much, will it?
