South Park: The Stick Of Truth EU Version Has Been Probed And Censored

South Park: The Stick Of Truth will be out in just a couple of weeks after a quite a shaky development period. It’s a game that has been written by and looked over by the TV show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, so it will contain the same humour and references which generally push the boundaries with nothing off limit. However it appears the censors have decided that some scenes are just too much for the European market.

  • A mini-game where a doctor is performing an abortion on the player.
  • A mini-game where the player is performing an abortion on the character Randy.
  • Five ‘anal probing’ scenes in which characters are ‘actively’ being probed.

Each scene is alleged to be around 20 seconds long so that’s just over two minutes of content cut. There will also be a day one patch to tackle issues including freezes on the game over screen, getting stuck in a certain area and trophy issues.

  1. So don’t download the patch then?

    • The patch is seperate to the censored material.

  2. I don’t mind the Abortion stuff being cut, but I`d like the anal probings………;o)

  3. On the one hand, it’s pretty annoying that an 18 rated game is being censored. Or indeed anything rated 18, games, films, whatever. (With some obvious exceptions which are illegal in the first place before you try and sell them to people)

But on the other hand, it all depends on _how_ they’re censoring it. If it Parker and Stone had anything to do with it at the point it was censored, they could actually end up (a) drawing more attention to it, and (b) making it funnier.

At least we get the game, not like a certain episode where Tom Cruise refused to come out of the closet. And the 200th and 201st episodes.

  4. Dicks. People who buy this clearly know what to expect. Censorship is fucking balls.

    • Seconded.

Censorship is such a pointless exercise and has no place in civilised society.

More specifically, games censorship has such an anti-sexual slant to it, many decisions border on the ridiculous. Games where you can commit atrocious acts of carnage in glorious high definition? Fine. Poorly animated cartoon characters doing tongue-in-cheek (ahem) anal probes? Censored.

    • Chocolate Salty Balls.

  5. Will make sure I get the NA version then – take that censorship dicks!!

  6. Would need to see the content before passing judgement as during an abortion scene it may appear as though you are killing a baby.

  7. funny, you’d think the americans would be the ones to get all sensitive about stuff like abortion.

and anyway, they’re bloody cartoons, very crude cartoons at that, and i mean crude as in simple, though they do fit the other definition as well. ^_^

  8. Ah well, at least the PS3 is region free. Hello North American version.

    • just what I was thinking :)

      • Me too! All systems should be region free.

  9. On one hand I am opposed to censorship. On other I don’t think I can handle another delay caused by it shipping from America.

    Argh

  10. For some reason, only the console versions are censored. The PC version is unaffected.
