Trust Is An Issue In Tales From The Borderlands, New Details From SXSW

Telltale Games and Gearbox Software have held a joint panel at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas where new details about Tales From The Borderlands were discussed. The talk, entitled Two Sides to Every Story – Tales from the Borderlands Unveiled at SXSW, confirmed that this new entry to the series will also take place on Pandora and that it is set after the events of Borderlands 2.

The two new characters that were shown in the reveal trailer are Fiona the con artist and Rhys the enhanced Hyperion man, and both are described as being greedy liars. This part of the character’s personality comes into play quite literally as events of the story are told from both of their perspectives, but you’re never sure who is telling the truth or whether they are at all. Any decisions players make in the game will be based on information that is not necessarily true.

This misrepresentation of events is done to offer choices where it appears a player will always benefit, with choices that offer different riches and wealth. Both characters each come with their own skills with Fiona being able to conjure up convincing lies, and Rhys using his enhancements to hack various electronics. No gameplay was shown at this panel, nor was a release date given for Tales From The Borderlands.

  1. Love Borderlands and love TTG… I have high hopes for this and am really looking forward to it!

Who knows, maybe by the time this comes along we’ll have gotten to play episode 2 of TWD season 2! ;-)

  2. What a cool idea, a kind of game hybrid, or at least a genre mixed with existing franchise.

  3. I like that this is a thing, but in my opinion Telltale is taking on too much. There’s far too long between releases, just take The Wolf Among Us as an example. I expected a monthly release schedule but had to wait, what, three or four months before the next episode? And there’s supposed to be at least five per series.

I’ll definitely buy this, but like with The Walking Dead I’m waiting for a complete season release.

    • I agree. They have produced some stellar games as of late, but with all these big projects coming along they do risk spreading themselves too thinly. I want to see more episodes of seasons they have already started, rather than promises of more things to come.
