Guerilla Games Continuing To Work On Solutions To Fix Lag In Killzone Shadow Fall

Guerilla Games’ has released a new blog update detailing what changes have been implemented to combat lag in Killzone Shadow Fall’s multiplayer, and what additions can be expected in future patches. Some of the changes that are already live include a longer wait time before the game tries to place you in a different region that isn’t your own. If you can’t get into a match in your own region then the second closest region will be selected.

There was also tests done to show that a wired connection is much better in terms of data transfer compared to wireless, and that there seemed to be extra lag in the US – East region which should now have been resolved as the servers have been moved to a new data centre. The next patch will bring in an information screen to show how your connection is performing, showing the nearest server, the amount of time it takes for data to transfer between your console and the servers, the amount of packet data lost, and standard information like upload and download speeds, and what type of connection you have.

The next update will also try to place you in games with people that have similar quality in terms of connections, and party matchmaking will place the party in the region where the majority of players are located instead of just the party leader’s. Future updates will also include new server locations, improved clan matchmaking where region will be determined by lowest total ping, being returned to your own region if a match becomes available after you finish a match, and adding more information to custom Warzones including which region they’re hosted in.

  1. its obvious that you’ll get better transfer with a wired connection over wireless, but if you’re rocking 50mb down and 6 up it shouldn’t matter. If the game can’t handle the 10% or so drop from wired to wireless theres something wrong some place else.
