Games leaving PlayStation Plus Extra in August 2022

Here are the latest games leaving PlayStation Plus Extra in August 2022. Much like Sony’s old PlayStation Now service, not all games will be available to download or stream forever with new titles being periodically added then removed at a later date.

The same applies to PlayStation Plus Extra, the middle tier in Sony’s revamped PS Plus that offers subscribers a library of games on demand. Unlike the top “Premium” tier, this doesn’t include the classics catalogue from older PlayStation generations, nor does it entitle you to PS3 game streaming or game trials.

Thankfully, according to the PlayStation Store, there is only one game about to be removed from the service with Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept leaving on August 11, 2022.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, with Guerrilla Games announcing that it’s taking the Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer servers offline the same day. This includes competitive modes and Intercept, the game’s co-op focused expansion. There would be little point giving PS+ users the ability to download it as it will effectively stop working.

Once billed as Sony’s “Halo killer” the Killzone franchise has slowly faded into obscurity over time. That second game is fondly remembered here at TheSixthAxis with regular clan meetups within the gritty multiplayer shooter.

Killzone’s fate is unknown, the latest rumours suggesting that a PSVR 2 reboot could be in development.

What’s with the whole PlayStation Plus relaunch?

The PlayStation Plus relaunch has now rolled out around the world, transforming the PS Plus we once knew into a three tiered subscription service that bundles in and expands what was once PlayStation Now. The classic PS Plus is now called PS Plus Essential, giving access to online multiplayer gaming, cloud save backups, exclusive offers and at least 2 free monthly games. PS Plus Extra then adds a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games into the mix, while PS Plus Deluxe and Premium (depending on your region) adds older PS2, PS1 and PSP game emulation, and game streaming for PS3 and other titles.

Sony hasn’t announced whether we’ll be seeing more games added to the Extra and Premium tiers in July. However, we have confirmation that Crash Bandicoot 4, Arcadegeddon, and The Man of Medan will be available to download and keep for anyone with PlayStation Plus via the Essential tier.
