The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is less than a month away, in cinemas at least. A couple of weeks after launch we’ll also see the latest from the folks at Beenox, the Activision-owned studio which has helmed the license since Shattered Dimensions in 2010.
We’ve seen snippets of gameplay before though in the footage below you’ll get a closer look at both the game’s navigation and combat mechanics.
Clearly an evolution on previous Spidey games, the combat seems weightier, making use of both dodge and counter mechanics. Stealth also seems to work its way into the mix, perhaps giving this latest movie tie-in a more Arkham feel to it.
Web-slinging across Manhattan has always been a huge draw when it comes to the Spider-Man franchise. Almost a decade ago we saw Treyarch revolutionise the super-hero sandbox experience with Spider-Man 2 and its insane navigation system.
Though partially restored in 2012’s movie adaptation, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will see an even fuller web of mechanics put in place, as demonstrated in the gameplay video.
It’s also worth pointing out that the footage was taken from the Xbox 360 version of the game. It already looks impressive though begs the question as to how much better it will appear on new-gen hardware.

Looks good, I like the Arkham bits it had, especially the pulling at enemy to wall then webbing them or hang them.
Thinking about buying the vita Spider-Man game as I have never played them
Undernage
Just to let you know, this is only Xbox 360 gameplay. So the graphics aren’t that bad for the 360, I am looking forward to next gen graphics.

Lol I didn’t say anything bad about the graphics :)

‘an even fuller web of mechanics’
SMH.

looks good, if they’re going to take cues from another game for their combat, there are few games better to choose than the Arkham series.
and the webswinging looks great, lots of the acrobatics he seems to be doing in the movie trailers.
i like the catapult move.
and graphically it’s pretty damn, well, pretty.
i half expected that to be the next gen version.
i can’t wait to see what an actual next gen version looks like.

This likes like it’s gonna be goooodddd! I’m loving some of the new webslingin techniques and animations. (the last spidey game I played was #2) I’m a little on the fence on how I feel about the hand to hand combat though. It may be just because of the music was covering up the actual sounds of combat, but it kinda looked like I was watching bad kung fu fight scenes. So I’m hoping once I hear what it actually sounds like it’ll seem a bit more cohesive.

I might get this on PS4 as it will undoubtably be the best version.
