Phil Spencer Fills The Spot Of Head Of Xbox At Microsoft

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella has named Phil Spencer as the new Head Of Xbox effective immediately, with this move combining the Xbox, Xbox Live teams, and Microsoft Studios into a more cohesive unit. Satya Nadella’s reasoning for having all of those teams managed by one overall leader means the continuation of great work and being able to bring the Xbox brand to other platforms such as PC and mobile in a better way.

Phil Spencer himself took to the official Xbox site to let everyone know about his own feelings on the promotion, and the brand.

” I am incredibly proud of the talented Xbox employees around the world and believe, like they do, in the power of technology to bring games and entertainment to life across console, PC, tablet and mobile devices.  It’s been a remarkable year for Xbox and I am honored to lead the team at this incredible time for Microsoft and the games industry.

Our mission is to build a world-class team, work hard to meet the high expectations of a passionate fan base, create the best games and entertainment and drive technical innovation. As we continue forward, this renewed focus and mission will be a foundational part of how I lead the Xbox program.”

It will definitely be interesting to see what kind of direction the Xbox brand goes in now, and what changes Phil Spencer will want to implement to bring the division in line with his vision.

  1. Good move on MS’s part – bringing all the Xbox teams under a single leadership means less internal politics (can also lead to dictatorship but let’s leave that one on the back burner for now) with someone who in the last few months has seemed to be focused on games and engaging reasonably with gamers.

  2. Putting them all under one roof sounds like it’ll be a good move, bringing it closer what Sony’s done with Playstation.

  3. Couldn’t think of a better choice, seems genuine from his interviews. Vastly more popular than the out of touch Mattrick and I’m not too keen on ‘majornelson’.

  4. Phil Spencer seems a good choice and having everything in one unit should allow them to be more efficient with their endeavours.

  5. The location location bloke?
