Destiny, from the developers of the original Halo series, Bungie is shaping up to be a great first person shooter for Activision, with its heavy focus on co-operative play. While we’ve seen gameplay before, this new trailer shows an in-depth and official look at how the game will play.
It looks quite good, but I can’t help as though it falls into the same category as a lot of other sci-fi shooters. There are some neat tricks, sure, but I’m not completely convinced. There also seems to be an overabundance of particles…
Destiny is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as PS4 and Xbox One, and Activision know that a lot of people might not have upgraded to the newer generation machines just yet, so according to investment lead Tyson Green, who spoke to Polygon, players will be able to transfer their saves if they get a new machine come Christmas.
Update: We were also sent a pair of new screenshots for the game, entitled “Hunter fighting the Hive alongside a Titan” and “Three guardians on alert outside a Hive pod in the Cosmodrome” respectively.

Is that The Wire’s Lieutenant Daniels doing the opening voiceover?
Kennykazey
No, it’s Colonel Broyles from Fringe….
Taylor Made
Is it open world, borderlands like? It has a borderlands feel to it
Kennykazey
It’s semi-open world I belive, like Borderlands. As in it’s segmented. But each area is supposed to be the size of Halo Reach, so it’ll be pretty massive.
It does seem Borderlands-y, but with more multiplayer I guess. It being effectively an MMO.
bravotangosix
Is it just me or is this really looking like Borderlands but without the Cell Shading? Still quietly interested though. Need to see more.
bravotangosix
@Taylor Made Beat me too it. ;-)
Taylor Made
Ha! At least I’m not the only one thinking of borderlands link :)

Is that Lance Reddick, AKA Lieutenant Daniels in The Wire or Broyles on Fringe, doing the voice over at the start?
Looks quite good to me. Basically, as long as it’s not as bullet spongey as Borderlands, with adaptive enemy levels so I don’t have to do stupid and endless grinding, I’ll be happy. The first to third person switching is interesting, too.
Also, was the AI not already using all of its resources to do the hacking? Why was it slacking off before the alarms went off and it said it’d have to “work faster”?
Kennykazey
That AI is Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), I suppose he’s a bit of a drunkard.

Just looks all the same & a bit soulless to me. I could see myself getting bored with it very quickly altho it may keep me entertained whilst I wait for The Division.
double-o-dave
I think it’s something to do with no one seems to be taking cover, just running & gunning like they’re invincible.
Nate
I felt the same, it didn’t do anything for me. I skipped to end end halfway through as I was bored, not a good sign!
double-o-dave
Glad it’s not just me then. It’s certainly not my Destiny.
Kennykazey
Yup, Halo meets Borderlands. Sign me up.
MICKY17
Yep agree with all the others at getting a sci-fi Borderlands feel :) looks very good to me!

The first multiplayer game I’ve been excited for since Battlefront II. I’ve never played a Halo game, it being such a niche series after all, but apparently their quite good so I have high hopes. Pre-ordered my copy a while ago so hopefully I’ll make the beta.

Did you not receive a code? Had mine within hours of ordering with Amazon, although that was within a few days of it being available to preorder… maybe the retailers only had limited numbers?
Halo is good, played 1 thru 3 and loved them – Bungie definitely had that 30 second combat loop down to a tee, and I’m glad this is looking a lot better than some of the earlier footage, which looked a bit ropey at times. AI looks like it needs improving though, and I hope not every one wants to be a scout/sniper class!
Steelhead
I ordered with Amazon too, and when my code didn’t arrive I contacted them and was told that pre-orders after a certain date would receive their codes after the beta was announced. Hopefully things will work out ok, if not it won’t be the end of the world. I pre-ordered on PS3, maybe the next-gen systems were given priority.
I’ve never owned an Xbox console so my Halo knowledge is extremely limited. I watched a friend of mine play the original, but to me it didn’t seem to hold a torch to Timesplitters 2.
RudeAwakening
Not impressed by the music during the main battle while they are trying to hack the mesh generator, far to rocky/metally for my liking!
Steelhead
Perfect battle music for me. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.
