Out This Week: Bound By Flame, God of War & Sportsfriends

With the May bank holiday over and done, it’s back to the daily grind – at least for most of us. Coincidentally, much like this week, the latest line-up of gaming releases will also be a short one.

Bound By Flame | PC, 360, PS3, PS4 | Friday

You have to admire French developer, Spiders. Despite missing the mark on several occasions the studio continues to take shots at the action RPG genre.

Hopefully this time it will pay off. Next to Mars: War Logs and Faery, Bound By Flame looks like it means business. Showing off its muscle on PlayStation 4, the game is centred around demons in a fantasy world.

Players will customise their very own hero, being able to accept or reject a tempting array of dark powers. Combat also looks interesting with its focus on real-time gameplay and traditional RPG elements. Our review should go live before the week’s out.

God of War Collection | PS Vita | Friday

“HD Classics” seem like a regular thing nowadays. However, just a few years ago it was strange to think that a publisher would go back and breathe life in old games.

One thing may will also have forgot is that God of War officially kicked off the trend. What started as a question on a Sony survey turned into a masterful recreation of two amazing action games.

From the Agean to Rhodes and the darkest depths of Hades, it’s an absolute and now you can take it anywhere.

Sportsfriends | PC, PS3, PS4 | Wednesday

One complaint we hear a lot is the lack of local multiplayer in the video game of today.

Sportsfriends looks to hit that nail on the head, however, with a unique combination of titles specifically meant for couch co-op. BariBari Ball, Hokra, and Super Pole Riders will have players competing in quirky, rapid fire matches suited for two to four players.

Thinking outside of the box, however, is Johann Sebastian and his game, Joust. Before you ask, no, it’s not going to be EA’s next big annualised sporting series. Instead, it’s a physical game in which players have to actually bash their opponent’s controllers to win. Looks fun, if you have friends that is.

  1. I’m interested in the concept of bound by flame, it’s just it could very well end up being crap so I’ll wait for reviews to roll in. Could do with an rpg on the ps4 so it could fill the gap, hopefully.

  2. I’m also interested in Bound By Flame, the combat looks interesting but hearing that the developers have had a checkered history with the genre is making me cautious. Looking forward to the review.

  3. Ok, so… Sportsfriends could be fun for the family. We could do with a PS4 co-op game like this.
