Ubisoft’s 2013-14 financial reports held the nuggets of information to two fairly major changes to their release schedule over the next year, with CEO Yves Guillemot mentioning Far Cry 4 in relation to a predicted uptick in revenues and profits over the next year, alongside the likes of Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, but there was nary a mention of Ubisoft Massive’s upcoming game, Tom Clancy’s The Division.
The reason for this, as it turns out, is because the game is only set to arrive in 2015, as opposed to the rough 2014 release it was previously pencilled in for. Combining this with the fact that the financial year runs until March 31st implies that the earliest we’ll see the game will be in the summer of next year.
Writing on The Division’s blog, the team posted a message saying:
Working on The Division is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us at Massive, Reflections, and Red Storm Entertainment. We are creating something we are really proud of and we don’t want to compromise on quality. We are going to release the game when it’s ready.
It’s disappointing that one of the most hotly anticipated announcements from last year, and a game that is focussed completely on the new console hardware without ties to the older generation, has been pushed back, but we hope to see more of the game soon. It’s likely that it will make an appearance at next month’s E3.

Awesome title and strapline. Give this man a raise! (or a salary of some sort)

I thought this has already been pushed back to 2015 a few months ago.

I reported in News Snatch that retailers had all moved the delivery date to 31st December 2014 but there was no official delay.

I was always under the assumption it was 2015, so (luckily) this isn’t disappointing for me to hear!

Delays are always good, they can only result in an improved final product but this one hurts a little as this is one of the only games coming up on ps4 I was actually looking forward to!

“Delays are always good”
Allegedly not for Watch Dogs. :P

Eveybody who thoughed the game whould release this year is living in a fantasy, I always expected it whould arrive in 2015.

Wouldn’t make sense to drop near the new Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.

Looks like development for the new gen takes quite a bit more, in terms of time, effort, and costs.
So everything gets delayed, and AAA titles are pushed aside by a huge wave of indie games with graphics of two or more generations ago. Gameplay-wise, that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. But still, I get the feeling the new gen faces a challenge here.

i know that delays are always off-putting but I’d rather a developer take extra time to get the game right rather then send out a half finished release and expect people to play through the bugs until updates can be released.

What I’d rather they did though was not talk about them so far in advance! Just keep quiet and then a few months before release when you’re fairly confident of hitting the target release date then announce and market the title like mad.
All this announcing 6+ months or even years in advance is just bollocks (we’ll almost be at the third E3 by the time watch dogs drops from when it was announced). I know it’s to build hype/feed the fans etc but I’d rather know nothing of a title, find out about it and know I can buy it very soon, than see something and think “yeah looks good but it’ll be a year or two off yet…”, it’s just torture.
A good “worst case” example is Rainbow 6 Patriots, it was announced and sounded like a great premise, then they decided it wasn’t working and went back to the drawing board. So not only did they get everyone’s hopes up now we’ve been starved of info for years and have no idea if/when we’ll see it, or even if it’ll be anything like what they announced. If they’d kept quiet we’d all have been living in blissful ignorance and then be super hyped when announced that in a matter of weeks we’d have the game in our hands!
