August’s PlayStation Plus Features Road Not Taken, Crysis 3, Metrico & More

Hey, this list looks nothing like the rumours that were circulating the internet yesterday. I wonder why? Either way, this one’s hopefully got a little bit of something for everyone. There’s platforming, shooting, rogueliking and more.

Road Not Taken stars on PS4, entering into the IGC at its launch, as a roguelike puzzler which sees you trying to solve environmental puzzles, make friends with NPC and try to avoid death, just as in all roguelike games. It’s joined by Fez, Phil Fish’s charming puzzler which finally made the way to PlayStation earlier this year. Both ought to be cross-buy, but while Fez reaches all platforms, Road Not Taken is for PS4 and PS Vita only.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, I reported that Road Not Taken would likely be cross-buy in error. The intent for the team at Spry Fox was that this would be the case at launch, but difficulties with the Vita version means that it has had to be pushed back to an autumn release at the earliest. Whether or not it will still be a cross-buy title at that time isn’t know.

EA show there’s no hard feelings about the whole thing where Sony called EA Access a bit rubbish by sticking Crysis 3 onto your PS3, letting you pick up from where you might have left off when Crysis 2 was featured on PS+ at the end of 2012. Alongside it comes Proteus – cross-buy for PS3 and PS Vita – something that pushes the boundaries of what it is to be a game, as you wander around a mysterious island.

Finally, on the PS Vita we see Lego Harry Potter 5-7 Years bring wizardly brick smashing to your handheld, just a month after we had Lego Batman 2, alongside the infographic-styled platformer Metrico, the second game to head straight into the IGC this month. You should check out Peter’s preview to get an idea of what it’s all about.

  1. this month was terrible. at least four of the games are absolute crap and Crysis 3 isn’t much better than these indie games no one heard of. Fez is ok i suppose but its really a last gen game and has been on more sales than i can count. it just proves now PlayStation Plus is required for online that they think they can serve us garbage. because of this i will buy all of my PS4 games used from now on. Sony do not deserve my money. no wonder they are having money problems.

    • So if Fez is “ok” (I’d say it’s better than that), then out of the other 5, 4 are absolute crap, despite the fact that 2 of them haven’t been released yet and so nobody can claim they’re absolute crap yet.

Good logic there. I think you meant to post that to the official PS blog. It’d fit in perfectly there.

    • Gonna have to agree with MrYd’s sentiments here, I know it’s a matter of opinion but I’m sure this Plus offering isn’t crap. Are you gonna be selling your PlayStations in disgust?

  2. Not a great month for me but I will pick up Proteus, it intrigued me on release but not enough to earn my money. I haven’t played a lego game since the original star wars on PS2 so I might go for Lego Harry Potter, it will give me something to play on the Vita while my wife watches come dine with me.

  3. A very good month. Road Not Taken & Metrico both look decent. Haven’t tried Fez on any platform so now’s the time and i’ll finally get to give Proteus a try. I’ve been really happy with the PS+ offerings since PS4 release. There have only been a couple that i only tried for about 15 mins (Mercenary Kings & Dead Nation) and didn’t enjoy so much so cant grumble.

  4. Nothing that really thrills me, but I think it’s a decent month. Will probably try most of these at some point, even if they’re all not really what I’d call current-gen games. And Crisis 3 is ok, even if I thought 2 was generally overrated. Hope it spills some cash into Crytek’s hands.

  5. Crysis 3 is decent enough…although not decent enough that I want to download it to play it again.

All I really remember about the game is Dirk from Hollyoaks.

  6. Yes! I’ve been wanting to try Proteus and Fez for ages

  7. My backlog is so big, I don’t mind bit of a PS+ drought! I feel that The Last of Us on my PS4 is going to keep me busy for yonks!
