So here’s some major news live from the Microsoft Conference as it has been announced that that sequel to the 2013 Tomb Raider, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, will be an Xbox exclusive and will launch next winter. So that means if you only own a Sony console then you’ll be left out of the show.
It’s a major coup for Microsoft especially considering how well Tomb Raider was received by the majority of people. In fact I’m really annoyed at the news myself, as I loved last year’s game and I don’t plan on getting a One anytime soon. The reason for this deal is that Crystal Dynamics needed a partner to push Rise to the next level, and Microsoft apparently stepped in.
UPDATE: Mike Adebajo of Square Enix has confirmed that the game is “100% exclusive” to Xbox, and over on the Tomb Raider Blog, Square have explained their reasoning behind the exclusivity.
Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past – we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

That rather sucks, but I’ve got an Xbox so at least I’m not missing out even though my ability to choose has been compromised.

That MS money hat is strong! Ahh well atlst I can say I can’t care much for Tomb Raider, prefer Uncharted a lot more, but I think Squeenix alienate a few fair fans after this one! Hehe enjoy the game though Xbox owners

Yep, I didn’t mind the new Tomb Raider but it did seem like a poor man’s Uncharted.
I think releasing a Tomb Raider game on the PS4 possibly around the same time as Uncharted would be a mistake for Sq Enix.
Saying that, being an old PS1 owner, I feel as if Lara has cheated on me the horrible ****! ;)

Though it does make it a lot easier for Uncharted to chart ahead of it and sell more copies in total which could look very bad for MS, XB1 and SquareEnix.

I preferred tomb raider to uncharted, but I’m not sure why.

It’s because it was something fresh & new.
It also had a lot more variation than just Story cutscene > Shooty bit > Platformy bit > Story cutscene > Shooty bit > Platformy bit > Story Cutscene > QTE.

I think Square Enix might’ve shot themselves in the foot a bit here – almost every response I’ve seen from people has been ‘well I won’t be playing that then’ rather than ‘I’ll need to get an XBox One to play that’.
I’m ok with getting it later, that doesn’t bother me. Just hope us PS4 folk do get to play it at some stage. I’m not sure even Microsoft could afford to pay out the equivalent cash that will be lost if this doesn’t hit PS4/PC (never mind the PS3).

Lara, you’re dumped!

Guessing we’ll be getting a ‘Game of the Year’ edition or something if at all.
Seems like quite a bitter pill to swallow, would have been getting this at launch, but again won’t be getting an Xbone just to play.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Sony did have anything up their sleeve this evening, or whether their conference will now look underwhelming.
I still think that the PS4’s future releases (that we know about) are stronger than the Xbox (even with Tomb Raider), but if we’re just shown what we’ve already seen, it’ll be a bit of an anticlimax.

Well, that’s annoying. Was quite looking forward to seeing how an early PlayStation mascot (of sorts) got to where she was when we were introduced to her.
Quite ironic that Xboxers will now have that instead. Or is it moronic? Maybe the latter.

Was good but not great as a reboot.
Simple fact is Uncharted 4 is all we need :-)
That is all.

Well I’m disappointed,I was looking forward to this after throughly enjoying the last one.
I definitely won’t be buying an xbox one just to play it.
Also as I’m stubborn, even if it does eventually come out on PS4 I won’t buy it.

Was really looking forward to that. Tomb Raider on PS4 is my favourite game on it so far. Very disappointed and won’t be teasing myself with Temple of Osiris for something I won’t get.
