So here’s some major news live from the Microsoft Conference as it has been announced that that sequel to the 2013 Tomb Raider, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, will be an Xbox exclusive and will launch next winter. So that means if you only own a Sony console then you’ll be left out of the show.
It’s a major coup for Microsoft especially considering how well Tomb Raider was received by the majority of people. In fact I’m really annoyed at the news myself, as I loved last year’s game and I don’t plan on getting a One anytime soon. The reason for this deal is that Crystal Dynamics needed a partner to push Rise to the next level, and Microsoft apparently stepped in.
UPDATE: Mike Adebajo of Square Enix has confirmed that the game is “100% exclusive” to Xbox, and over on the Tomb Raider Blog, Square have explained their reasoning behind the exclusivity.
Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past – we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

what the actual fuck?
i really hope that ms pockets are deep, they’re going to piss off a lot of people with this shite.
me included.
because they just decimated sales of all their other titles on non xbox formats.
i don’t know if i’d go as far as to boycott their other titles on PS3 and 4, the best way for them to realise what a boneheaded decision this is, is if their multiformat titles sell much better on playstation.
but many gamers are going go right off square published titles after this.
if it was something like COD, i wouldn’t even mind, though i’d guess i’m in the minority there, but Tomb Raider?
aw hell no.
if there’s no PS4 version i won’t be buying an xbox for it, i just won’t get to play the game.

They’re more than welcome to COD as far as I’m concerned.

Microsoft: ruining gaming since 2001…

Wow, that’s a very quick way of losing a couple of million sales. I doubt very much that the exclusivity will stick, even if MS and SE say otherwise.
I enjoyed the last offering, but won’t by an Xbox for the next, so I’ll just stick with uncharted.

It would appear that Microsoft are fed up playing second fiddle. Give it a year and they will have put EA firmly back into 2nd place in the ‘most hated company’ awards.
No problem with console exclusives, no problem with paying for an exclusive. Problem is with them paying to stop an existing franchise from appearing on the platform that it is played on, almost exclusively in this case. Idiots.
Steelhead
I actually played the first couple of hours of tomb raider yesterday and I was disappointed. Nothing but a long string of QTE’s. I wouldn’t be playing the next one so MS are welcome to it.
Square Enix should really be trying to improve their image though, not pound it into the ground. I have less and less faith in them as time goes by.

Like others have said I think Tomb raider is a bit meh. So I’ve got an Xbox and won’t be getting the the new Tomb raider anyhow.
Smallville2106
Won’t be playing this then. Can’t imagine it will do that much good for Microsoft. I wonder how much they paid.

Does that mean it’s not on PC either? I bought a PC specifically to play the majority of Xbox exclusives, and also because I needed a new PC.
