Microsoft has confirmed that there is an ongoing problem with the Xbox LIVE friend system, where people are having trouble viewing their friend’s lists, adding people, or sending game invites. The problem seems to have been occurring since last night, and there isn’t a sure answer as to what the route problem is. Couple this with PSN being down for maintenance tonight, the amount of people being able to play online with their friends is lowered quite considerably.
The full statement on the LIVE status page is as follows.
Xbox members, are you having trouble viewing the online state of other users on your Friends list, adding new friends, sending and receiving messages and games invites, or viewing and unlocking new achievements? We’re aware of these issues and doing our best to get everything back to normal right away. We appreciate your patience during this process and will update you again in 30 minutes.
We shall keep you updated as Microsoft reveal more information.

There is no such problem with sony at this moment in time? And there has never been a problem with pS friends list? Xbox live isn’t invincible stuff happens get over it!

Actually there have been some issues with PSN friends list for a while. Some of it has only happened to certain people, other issues like defunct loading on the friend list (notably Vita) has happened to lots of people. Adding people or game invites has rarely been a problem though.

I have a lot of problems with the friends list, actually. The PS Vita and its standalone hardcoded app are the only reliable ways of viewing my friends list and messages. There are often long loading times before parts of my friends list will appear, and the messages I receive take a long time after the notification before I can actually view them, but I don’t see why, when the PS Vita handles these things without any problem at all. It’s strange.

It’s the reverse with me. It’s OK on the PS3, but slow and blotchy on the Vita. I know a couple of other people who have different sorts of issues as well, with being seen as offline when they’re online, and not receiving game invites (though this is perhaps rare).

Im constantly having problems with stuff, as Stefan says the messages take ages to appear, often when you scroll down friends list the boxes are all blank, store often doesnt load etc etc. i dont think it’s unreasonable to have a moan about this as it’s basic stuff that they should be getting right

Yeh I noticed this, I couldn’t access my friend list to see if my only one friend is online through smart glass
Starman
Very annoying. It worked on my 360 earlier and briefly worked again on my Xbox one. Everything else is ok though.
