Grand Theft Auto V Confirmed As 1080p On PlayStation 4

The latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine has a huge feature on the sexed up Grand That Auto V for PlayStation 4 and they have confirmed the game will run in “pin sharp” 1080p.

Glimmering 1080p presentation, hugely increased draw distance, 100 new songs, fresh wild-life, a bumper version of GTA Online, this is sandbox you’ve dreamt about ever since you slotted Sony’s angular baby under your TV

They also state the lighting has had an overhaul with ambient occlusion now present along with huge draw distances, reworked textures and “drastically reduced” vehicle pop-in. Additionally, Grand Theft Auto Online will now support up to 30 players.

Obviously as a PlayStation publication no mention was made of the Xbox One version of the game, completely unsubstantiated rumours have suggested the game runs at 900p on Xbox One but we shall have to wait and see.

  1. GTA is the absolute antithesis of a game on rails so 900p might be spot-on, to be fair.

Saying that, GTA in 720p with hugely improved graphics and decent AntiAliasing would be a visual treat. 1080p is just adding to the fun.

    • Yeah mate, reduced pop-in with an improved level of detail and higher resolution textures are the stars of this show.

A solid 30FPS would do absolute wonders too, watching someone play GTA V on PS3 is painful. Actually playing it yourself isn’t as bad.

      • I’ve loved days’-worth of GTA and you don’t really think about it when you’re playing it. However, when you quit another game (say, Far Cry 3 on the PC which is running very smoothly for me) then load-up GTA V it’s a hysterical difference. Still doesn’t stop the game being wonderful but does leave you with the thought of “oh, good god. You were wringing every drop of power out of the old consoles and the trade-offs are there to see”.

A locked 30FPS would be fine. If they can manage more, awesome stuff.

  2. But will it have heists? :-P

    • Lol, I guess that could be what’s “bumper” about it.

      • It actually wouldn’t surprise me if they were in & used as a marketing tool to sell the remaster.

“remember those heists you wanted? Yeah well, you’ll want this version then!”

  3. For God’s sake, now I want it again but I’ve already used November’s quote of purchases on The Evil Within and FarCry4. May have to get this and PS TV for Christmas. After all, I’ve been a good boy this year.

  4. I pre-ordered this on Friday. Might have a whirl on the PS3 version again when I receive the PS4 disc so I can fully appreciate the upgrades.
I just need to get a few beers in and they just need to make it compatible with Project Morpheus so I can sit in the Vanilla Unicorn with a real beer in my hand enabling me to have a Friday and Saturday night, every night of the week! ;)

  5. Weirdly, sites aren’t offering the PS4 console bundle with this yet, but I will be preordering when they do! Good to hear it’s going to look great too!

  6. Has it been decided if you can import your trophies from the PS3 version?
I’ve seen quite a few articles about it but no confirmed ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

    • I hadn’t heard anything about that – I had heard that your online progress will carry over, but how that affects the trophies remains to be seen of course.

Overall, it needs to remain a choice I feel, as you might actually want to do the whole thing again.

    • Forrest is correct about character progress. I would be happy to get most of the multiplayer trophies again, but I REALLY hope the “reach level 100” trophy would auto-pop on PS4 following character transfer data. If it did, I’d defo do a happy dance.

    • seen a few articles that seem to imply that only your character save transfer not the trophies, plus all the games i’ve played so far on ps3 and ps4 have had seperate trophy lists.
