GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release date set for November

Rockstar has announced that the expanded and enhanced versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 11th November 2021. The new standalone release of GTA Online will be free on PlayStation 5 for the first three months.

As a bonus for the game’s millions upon millions of existing players, there will be updates for GTA Online this summer that will include special benefits for players who are upgrading later in the year. There will also be some GTA Online fun times to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III.

In the meantime, there’s also the ongoing PlayStation promotion where PlayStation Plus members on PlayStation 4 can claim $1,000,000 of in-game currency by visiting the PlayStation Store at the start of each month, with Rockstar and Sony filling players’ pockets up until the game’s PS5 release.

GTA V is the gift that keeps on giving for Rockstar, and the game will be released natively on its third generation of consoles this year (it debuted on the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013, after all). As such a ludicrously popular game, it makes sense for Rockstar to want to keep the good times rolling and update the game for the new generation of consoles. In the process they can increase the game resolution, the frame rate, and improve the game’s loading times significantly over the game on PS4 or Xbox One (let’s not mention the original release)… though we don’t know by how much just yet.

Still, with GTA V being the first game shown during the PS5’s reveal event last June, some people were a little perplexed as to why the next-gen reveal was being kicked off by such an old game. Then again, Demon’s Souls was an even older game and people loved that.

Truth be told, we’re all just crossing off the days on our calendars before Rockstar feel ready to reveal the long rumoured GTA VI…

  1. How many times does Rockstar want you to buy the same game?

I didn’t get the PS4 version so, depending on other games releases, I might be tempted. Although I don’t want to spend £40+ on the game only to find that number 6 is going to be released within a few months or so.

    • Obviously as many times as possible… There is the new standalone release of GTA Online, though, which will either be free on PS5 or likely cost £5 like the standalone Red Dead Online.
