Grand Theft Auto Online will be free on PS5 in 2021, GTAV expanded and enhanced for next gen [Updated]

Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online are coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the second half of 2021. Not only that, but Rockstar are teaming up with Sony to make GTA Online free to download for PS5 players, and giving PS4 players free in-game currency while you wait.

Sony opened its PS5 reveal event with a montage of classic games over the decades the PlayStation brand has been around. The montage rounded out with the Rockstar logo before giving us an extended look at Grand Theft Auto V on PS4. After this rather strange montage it was confirmed that GTA V will be released for PS5 in 2021, expanded and enhanced for the next generation.


In addition, Sony confirmed that Grand Theft Auto Online will be free at launch on PS5 for everyone, so you won’t even need to buy Grand Theft Auto V to play the multiplayer. That offer will be available for three months, exclusively on the PS5. To help tide existing owners over, all PS4

This will be the third generation that Grand Theft Auto V will appear on having originally released on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The game has proven to remain popular with its transition to PS4 and Xbox One, having never left the retail sales chart. Rockstar is sure to hope that success continues on the next generation.
