Out This Week: Lords Of The Fallen, Sunset Overdrive & WWE 2K15

With November just around the corner, this week’s release slate is unsurprisingly rammed with games looking to get a pre-emptive boost ahead of the competition. There’s a good chance many will be will saving their money for next week’s return of Call of Duty; still, there’s plenty of games here, most of which are more than worthy of your attention.

Lords Of The Fallen | PS4, Xbox One, PC | Today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bduGNgPG1e4 Many will remember Lords Of The Fallen as one of the first next-gen titles they caught wind of. Developed by German studio Deck13 (with support from City Interactive) this latest action-RPG has often been described as a mix between Demon’s Souls and Darksiders thanks to its tactical combat and fantasy aesthetic. As Harkyn, players are thrown into a conflict between humans and a long-dead legion of fallen Gods. Be sure to check out our full review.

Chivalry | PS3, Xbox 360 | Wednesday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZE4FXdSk1tE First person medieval action games are a rare breed, especially those that dare to tread into the realm of multiplayer. That didn’t stop Torn Banner Studios, however, who took to Kickstarter and have since released Chivalry – a unique spin on your traditional FPS experience. Adopting a mishmash of new and familiar game modes, it’s definitely a one of a kind experience and one that could work well on consoles if the developer can translate its finnicky control system to suit gamepads.

The Unfinished Swan | PS4, Vita | Wednesday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA6KMMhnJCQ Widely cited as one of PSN’s greatest, The Unfinished Swan will finally be making its way to PlayStation 4 and Vita later this week. The best part? If you already own the game on PS3, it immediately becomes available for free on all other platforms. Stealth Inc. 2 | Wii U | Thursday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhgB9ENWQKY Another digital title from the folks at Curve, Stealth Inc. 2 is coming exclusively to Wii U this week. Dubbed “A Game of Clones” the sequel will allow players to mess around with doppelgangers as they move from stage to stage as well as an assortment of nifty toys and gadgets. If the original is anything to go by, Nintendo fans are in for a treat. Our review will go live tomorrow.

Falling Skies: The Game | PS3, Xbox 360, PC | Friday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyxFG9pzMuk

Freedom Wars | PS Vita | Friday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY8_GoIm2cg Earmarked as one of the PlayStation Vita’s hottest 2014 releases, Freedom Wars finally makes its way to UK shores later this week. Falling into the same bracket as Monster Hunter, God Eater, Toukiden, and Soul Sacrifice, its an action RPG with a heavy focus on co-op. It looks to have promise though whether or not it will captivate Western gamers is another thing. Hopefully, we’ll be able to share our impressions when the game launches.

NBA Live 15 | PS4, Xbox One | Friday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAwdHWkZXQ4

Sunset Overdrive | Xbox One | Friday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAwma88K2ok Bombastic, stylish, and dripping with toxic charm, Sunset Overdrive is latest from Spyro and Ratchet developer, Insomniac Games. It’s easily one of the Xbox One’s most hotly anticipated titles of 2014 and has already stolen our hearts – find out more in our review!

WWE 2K15 | PS3, Xbox 360 | Friday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IomtpbHH7lg

The Walking Dead: Season 1 (GOTY) & 2 | PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One | Friday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbqZUThSW-Q “Wait just a minute,” you’re probably thinking, “aren’t these games already out?” The answer to that would be yes, at least digitally – or on last-gen platforms. This week marks the series’ retail debut on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 while also giving PS3 and 360 players the chance to pick a physical copy of the acclaimed second season. Having just started it myself, I can tell you, it’s a stellar continuation and one that easily manages to carry the torch despite the overwhelming expectations placed on its shoulders.

  1. I’ll probably grab The Unfinished Swan since it’ll be free with cross-buy, and Battle Islands which is Free To Play. Cheap week, although I did just buy The Evil Within.

Some decent games available this week though!

  2. Ooh, Walking Dead? In a box?? & I can buy both???

    Mmmmm, tasty.

    • I have ordered both in a boxes, not sure on the taste yet.

  3. I’m playing Sunset Overdrive, it’s really cool. So far, I’d say it’s the best open world game on the new systems, excluding Forza Horizon as that’s a hard comparison. It’s bright, it’s fun, it’s silly!

I think I’ll get the Unfinished Swan, as I skipped it on PS3.

Is Freedom Wars the Vita’s swansong? I don’t know of any other coming exclusives… :’-(

Costume Quest 2 is out this week on Wii U!
But where’s my PS4/Xbone version? It was meant to be out in time for Halloween…

    • Oh God I forgot about Costume Quest 2, can’t bloody wait!!

    • There’s Tales of hearts R, but aside from that, the Vita is quiet. There’s all those pixel games though. I mean, in an age of gorgeous graphics and art design, we all want pixels and only pixels right.

      • But even that’s a remake of an old game!

    • I have to say it would be good to have a quiet period for the Vita. I’m struggling to keep up with the games as it is… Busily playing Sword Art Online, Akiba’s Trip, Senran Kagura, Natural Doctrine – and have Freedom Wars on order already. Yes, they are all Japanese in origin(and a couple are a little ‘pervy’ for some peoples’ tastes). Another game coming soon (well, hopefully not as vapourware as the last in the series) is Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition.

  4. Just The Walking Dead for me – looking forward to trying it on PS4 and seeing how some different choices affect the story :-)

  5. WWE 2K15 is only released on old-gen consoles this week. Next-gen was delayed until November.
