Dying Light Cancelled On PlayStation 3 And Xbox 360

Techland have shelved the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Dying Light as the legacy console were not powerful enough to run the game.

“After thorough internal testing, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to leave past-gen systems behind and release Dying Light exclusively on the next-gen consoles and PC,” explained the developers in a Facebook post. “Put simply, older consoles just couldn’t run the game and stay true to the core vision of Dying Light at the same time.”

Techland went on to say that displaying 200,000 objects and the use of realistic, physics-based lighting technology was “really starting to push the next-gen systems to the limits.”

“To ensure you enjoy Dying Light as much as we would like you to, we chose to release it without any compromises on the three strongest systems available. Thanks to this, you’ll get the full and best experience regardless of the platform you play on,” they added.

Thanks to Bunimomike for the tip.

  1. Dying Light? What’s that then?

    • A very good looking zombie game. Techland has thrown off the shackles of Deep Silver (publisher) and look to be crafting something genuinely good. They have a gameplay trailer which has me all in a froth for it. http://youtu.be/mAQX1bhQ8lg

This time, it’s about avoiding hoards and the nighttime is thrilling as hell.

      • Aha, I remember now, thanks! Does look interesting.

      • Was Deep Silver compromising Techlands past works or something?

      • Aye, fella. Remember how bug-ridden (and close to broken) Dead Island was on launch? Deep Silver wouldn’t allow Techland to sort out the bugs they wanted to and pushed ahead with launch.

Also, a Sacred 3 dev was talking about Deep Silver in a negative light recently in the media – which TSA reported on as well.

Obviously publishers need to have some sort of control but Deep Silver are very quickly building a bad reputation for themselves.

  2. This is the parkour, first-person, zombie thing. Looks great what I’ve seen of it. I think we’re gonna see more studios dropping support for the last gen.

  3. As disappointing as this must be for those who’ve not taken the plunge with PS4 or XBO, ultimately I think this is good news… At least they can concentrate on wringing as much as they can out of the new gen machines.

  4. Everytime I see this, I get more and more interested. Really want this game. I didn’t really get on with Dead Island, tone just didn’t interest me. But this looks right up my alley.

Mike, that video you posted looks amazing. This could easily become the best zombie game on the market.

    • Cheers, fella.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dead Island (and Riptide) but that was more to do with the co-op friends in there (Stefan/Teflon being one of them). We just buggered around all of the time. However, without Deep Silver, Techland want to push far harder with Dying Light and it’s instantly obvious.

Sure, it might fail but the promise and the concept of the game is really wonderful. As you mentioned, that video is full of “oh god, this is shaping up to be something fantastic” moments so hopefully they’ll execute the development of the game as well as the videos are showing. If it works, it’ll utterly slay Dead Island 2 but then there’s room for that too. That’s keeping with the fun and silliness that people enjoyed with the series.

Just had a thought: Shadow of Mordor did nothing but enthuse me with each new video. Nothing soured how it was shaping up (for me). Dying Light is exactly the same. Seen over a handful of videos showing many different aspects and it’s all splendid so far. :-)

      • Good comparison to Shadow of Mordor. Everything I saw had me interested that little bit more. By the time it came out I was desperate to get my hands on it. And the features I was so interested in just blew me away even more when playing.

If this can do that to the same level then we are on to a winner here I hope. Roll on January.

      • It’s my birthday on Halloween so I think I’ll get Shadow of Mordor on the PC and spank the pert bottom off of it. :-)

  5. Hopefully a continuing trend.
