Outside it might be icy, the air feel damp and glum.
But underneath our TVs, the consoles warmly hum.
And with Santa’s sleigh just hours away, there’s reason to be cheerful:
When reindeer fly through snow-filled sky, our gaming lives get gleeful.

As you sit in gaudy jumper, having grown a fair bit plumper.
Attention turns to gifts received, a disc that sits with lives perceived.
I can guess what you’ll be doing, before the Queen’s Speech viewing.
For those of us who love to game, Christmastime is much the same.

He’s Robbing banks and stealing cars, harmonising over pop star’s bars.
Checking maps to see how far, she becomes a whole world’s superstar.
Scoring goals, defending streaks, dropping bodies on the Paris streets.
Teleporting, matching beats, bragging about his latest feats.
Popping off at zombie hordes and shooting up convenience stores.
One more go for highest scores and sharing clips on message boards.
She stealths her way through medical bay, Alien threat just yards away.
Climbs a tower, joins the fray, powers up a radar array.
Skinning tigers and rhinoceroses, making wallets from their orifices.
He levels up what this class of his is or shows the world what a model pacifist is.

The year’s been tough to get through, with dramas that might upset you.
But a pastime so resilient, shows how games are bloody brilliant.
And the more we have to play, the better things will stay.
These games that can delight us, in shared experience unite us.

There’s just one catch: the day one patch with gigabytes unloaded.
And that’s okay, you can play but deathmatch foes stay unexploded.
So even though the weather outside is frightful,
Our consoles help us ensure our Christmas is delightful.
