As far as big-name retail releases go, there really isn’t much this week bar two Japanese imports for PlayStation Vita. First up we have Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sisters Generation, returning to the series RPG roots. Following the same track we also have Criminal Girls: Invite Only which previously in 2010 exclusively on PlayStation Portable in Japan. It’s a quirky take on the traditional dungeon-crawling formula that tasks the player with leading a group of convicts on their way to redemption. The game was quick to court controversy over its suggestive “motivate” scenes in which its leading ladies are spanked in order to earn new abilities. Even if you’re not into Japanese role-playing games, our upcoming review should be worth a read.
As touched on very briefly, today marks the start of EA’s open beta for Battlefield Hardline. The game, which was originally slated to launch last year, will touch down next month, developer Visceral no doubt eager to hear the thoughts of players. Available on PC and most home consoles, the beta will feature three modes and three modes for players to test out. For those who remember, EA ran a beta last year that didn’t go down so well, resulting in Hardline’s ultimate delay. Hopefully Visceral has managed to turn things around.
Elsewhere, Telltale’s Game of Thrones is set to make a return with its second episode, The Lost Lords. Picking up after the events of last year’s debut, players will once again adopt the roles of the Forrester family as they find themselves embroiled in a feud that has already divided the kingdom of Westeros.
Finally, we couldn’t start the month without mentioning the new slate of games coming to PlayStation Plus. There’s a decent mix this time around with big games including Thief, Yakuza 4, and Transistor as well as new release Apotheon and Rogue Legacy.
