When we post a story about a game running on a lower resolution on Xbox One than on PlayStation 4 some people question if it matters. Well it turns out it does, in fact games running at a higher resolution on PS4 is the top reason why Americans are choosing the console over Xbox One, according to Nielsen.

Interestingly, the second reason for purchasing a PS4 is the blu-rayer player, which the Xbox One also has but perhaps Microsoft have not got that message through to consumers. Xbox owners are a loyal bunch stating that the brand is top reason for buying the new console, along with exclusive games.
They survey also reports that 43% of Xbox One owners previously had a PlayStation 3, but 59% of PlayStation 4 owners previously owned an Xbox 360.

Playstation for me always has been & will always be. I always also have an Xbox every gen cause my mom assumes I like xbox but every feb it gathers dust, doesn’t look good next to my tv. No games I like no story driven games just shooters after shooters.
Playstation to me is more diversity when it comes to its games, delivers & never disappoints apart from HAZE. At the end of the day it’s about long term & what’s there to offer & PS has far more to offer gaming wise.
a inferior race
I had all three consoles time andI went for ps4 this time. Primarily because of the E3 that Sony won and secondly because I.prefer the exclusives on PlayStation over xbox. I may get a xbone in the future.

I have been with Playstation for 16 years. The games, attention to genres and general all round well being made me choose Playstation. It used to be Final Fantasy & MGS that swayed me. Now its Uncharted and the Killzone’s of this world.
Xbox has no real identity or distinction that universally appeal to gamers. Its popular in the West but not much anywhere else. Gears Of War & Lost Odyssey though I am jealous of-little else however.

For me it should always come down to the exclusives. While they may have been marketed differently and have slightly different specs/accessories, the PS4 and X1 are pretty similar and its only really their software library that separates them.
Its that reason why I personally picked X1 over PS4 this gen as, while PS exclusives are usually stunning, they are typically “one and done” games for me with no replay value. Gears of War, Forza, etc on the other hand I can play for hundreds of hours.
As the poll suggests though, I think the Wii U actually has the edge over its competitors as its software is easily the most fun.
Forrest_01
I presume the last sentence was sarcasm? As I don’t think anyone can state with a straight face that the Wii U has ‘the edge’ over the competition. Especially over Xbox One & PS4 – Its a bit of a closer run thing with Xbox 360 & PS3 though as they are closer in what they deliver.
I do agree that Ninty do get the fun factor right as well though.
Eldaveo
Nope, not sarcasm :) Out of the three consoles I find the Wii U to be the best thanks to its software lineup. Some great games on all three systems of course but games like Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and Mario 3D World are just in another league in my opinion.
Forrest_01
Each to their own of course, but I would personally struggle to come up with any other games worth playing than the ones you mentioned.
I just find their release strategy a little weird – It’s nice that they do their own thing & aren’t trying to keep up with the competition, but at the same time, it’s like they aren’t trying to keep up with the competition (if you get what I mean?).

Smash Bros, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Pikmin 3, Mass Effect 3 (love gamepad commands), Hyrule Warriors, Wind Waker HD, Zelda U, Splatoon, Yarn Yoshi… There’s plenty of great games and more to come. Animal Crossing please!
Forrest_01
Again, it’s somewhat subjective as apart from Zelda, I wouldn’t be interested in playing any of those games. That’s not to say that they aren’t good, but it just reinforces my decision not to get one.
Still don’t think that compares to the versatility & catalogue (present & future) of PS4 & Xbox One, but that’s just my opinion. Not knocking the Wii U, I just don’t think it compares is all.
Kennykazey
No more subjective than for any other system. It’s probably got the best exclusive lineup of any current gen console so far. Many of Playstation and Xbox’s best games are third-party, multiplatform titles.

I hate this kind of crap for the discussions that it spawns. I really think we should be looking to the games and the enjoyment we get from them, not the minute details in visuals, the power factor, or the console itself. I don’t bloody well spend hundreds of pounds for the right to bitch about how good it is. No I sit in my chair and I enjoy the game.
Suffice to say this all pisses me off because the nielsen data is useful for marketing/commerce only. Yet it inevitably promotes the dichotomous thinking that fuels rivalry between consoles.
bunimomike
So far, fella, people are chatting in a very calm manner and talking about so much more than the visuals. :-)
Avenger
I was talking more broadly, outside TSA’s reporting of this.
bunimomike
How dare you talk of “the others”. *feigns shocked look*

There are others?

Playstation for mw and here’s why… (If you fancy a longish read)
I originally owned a 2nd hand PS1 which I bought for next to nothing, then I pretty much missed the following generation apart from getting a Dreamcast off my mate who owed me £20. :)
Then, on the spur of the moment out of boredom I decided to buy a console as everyone else seemed to have on too.
At the time I bought an Xbox 360 just because I didn’t no a lot about the 2 consoles and it was cheaper & bundled with 3 games.
Immediately I was annoyed when I realised I had to get a controller battery charger etc which was a let down & I wasn’t too keen on the power brick too. A couple of days later I could no longer play the last level of GoW as I got a disc error, I then got the same disc error with the other 2 games shortly before discovering all the discs were scratched. To cut a long story short I got 2 more consoles and copies of the games which all did the same. I called Microsoft who accused me on the phone of turing the console from a horizontal to vertical position which I didn’t do and denied. – I then learnt several months later that a batch of Xbox 360s had dodgy disc drives which were scratching discs but Microsoft were denying it.
Thankfully, I got a refund, paid slightly more and got a PS3. Instantly I preferred the UI and controllers and discovered the Playstation seemed more adult like and less childlike.
Exclusives also had a big impact on me with Naughty Dog games in particular and even Killzone 2. I’ve always loved the graphics/visuals too and although the Xbox seemed to have better 3rd party versions of games, there exclusives didn’t seem to come close to the PS3s exclusives. I could be wrong here but didn’t TLOU and a few others look so good because the PS3 was actually more powerful but more difficult to programme for due to the architecture of it’s cell?
Overall I felt more comfortable with the Playstation and there’s hundred’s of reasons why I wouldn’t touch the Xbox One due to Microsoft’s ridiculous policies they u-turned on included the blatant lies they told. How people can buy a console off a company after the tricks they were trying to pull & domination over your console seems ridiculous to me. I do not trust them whatsoever!
I’m not sure what I would’ve done this gen if the PS4 was the weaker console between the 2 and struggled to even reach 1080 with a majority of games. Rather than buy an Xbox One, I think I’d give up gaming unless another console came along.
double-o-dave
Oh dear, Forgive the bad English I’ve used whilst typing… Their – there, know – no, including – included etc.
Thats what you get for not reading things back.
bunimomike
This is why we wouldn’t let you kill the nasty men, last night, in GTA. :-)

To be honest, I’m still in shock, or maybe it’s awe of the 200mph motorbike smash into my jeep.
It was a truly inspiring and impressive way to go. ;)
bunimomike
I just wanted to get in your jeep… really, really quickly! :D

Had both last gen but got rid of the 360 as i was just wasting the online subscription.I would like the Xbox one as it looks okay as do the games maybe in a year or two.The Wii U does stand out as being a fun console and the games look really good which really surprised me.
TSBonyman
And apparently some people chose one over the other because of that huge pulsating chip on their shoulder, the silly billies..
Tony Cawley
I can’t believe nobody has mentioned trophies or achievements yet. I know for a lot of people they wouldn’t want to lose that record of what they’ve played and their achievements from last gen.
leeroye
I created a new account for my xbox one having amassed a GS of 16000 on the 360. I couldnt really care less about gamerscore.
double-o-dave
I guess that could sway a lot of people. I started using a PSN account I created years ago for BFBC2 about a year before I got a PS4 because I didn’t like my old name.
Oddly enough, it was quite refreshing starting from scratch with trophies as I think I was stuck on Level 13 for a bout a year but I do miss my platinums. I’ve currently only got 1. I could have more but just can’t be bothered to replay games for the odd trophy here and there. It would be nice if they allowed you to merge an old account although I can’t remember my password and no longer have the email address.
bunimomike
I can’t help think that’s further down the pecking order, Tony. It’s a factor but not the be-all and end-all like the ones in the graphic.
If it is… you may well be a professional gamer and hopefully make money from it all! :-)
bennibop
Have all 3 consoles but I rarely touch X1, I find the whole OS clunky and poorly thought out where PS4 is far better in that regards and since launch Microsoft has not really being very innovative as has been copying Ps4 features. I bought X1 just to play exclusive (play multiplats on PS4 as run better) however even they are not getting a look in as played Sunset Overdrive for about 30 mins only Forza H2 kept me amused for any length of time, I suppose I just find Microsoft exclusive a little shallow.
