Indie hit Gone Home was meant to be coming to consoles via Midnight City, part of the Majesco publishing group, but that is no longer the case.
Majesco was having a spot of financial trouble last year and has since closed Midnight City. “Our publishing deal with Majesco has ended, and the console version is not in active development,” developer Fullbright’s co-founder Steve Gaynor told Eurogamer. Midnight City were also to publish Costume Quest 2 on consoles, presumably that deal is also off the table.
Gone Home has you playing as 21 year old Kaitlin Greenbriar, who returns to her family home to find her family is missing and a note from her sister telling Kaitlin not try and find her. Editor Blair wrote a lovely piece on how he connected with the game which you can read here. The game also won a BAFTA last year as best debut game and it’s a genuine loss that it is no longer coming to consoles.

Perhaps that explains why Costume Quest 2 never made it to Europe on PS4, (although it is on PS3 in Europe and on PS4 in the US). Gone Home looks good too, so it’s a shame on both accounts.

That was my first thought also and yep properly explains it. Sucks for Doublefine, well and Fullbright.
Shame about Gone Home, guess I might as well play the copy I have for Steam.

What’s annoying is that these companies never tell us what’s going on – it’ incredibly frustrating. Fair enough, no one is going to publically say a company is struggling when staff may not even know, but I wish Double Fine had just said “Don’t expect it in Europe, we can’t say why”.

Judging by the soundtrack on that video, I would have taken the disc out and smashed it after the 4th or 5th superfluous use of the word ‘so’. Drives me mad.

Such a shame, everyone needs to experience this game.

That is a shame, doesn’t seem to mean it will never happen though.
