Psyonix has today released a new gameplay trailer for upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, Rocket League. For those unaware, Rocket League is a sequel to 2008’s magnificent yet awkwardly-namesd Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars (SARPBC for short).
Much like its predecessor, Rocket League will feature online multiplayer as well as local split-screen for up to four users. As someone who spent entire nights rotating controllers over SARPBC and a six pack, it’s great to hear that Psyonix will enable couch play in this long-awaited follow-up.
Fans will also be delighted to see that at least one of the arenas from the original game will be making its way into Rocket League as well as a selection of classic cars. These will feature alongside plenty of new assets powered by Unreal Engine on PlayStation 4.
Sadly, Psyonix has yet to confirm a solid release date for Rocket League though “Spring 2015” is the game’s intended launch window.
[Update]Â In the coming weeks we’ll have an opportunity to speak with the creators of Rocket League, Psyonix. If you have any questions for the team about the game then please post them in the comments below and we’ll pass them on!

4 player split screen!! Yes!! This is a must buy!! SARPBC was one of the best titles on the PS3.

Previous game was brilliant with friends, this looks equally brilliant, possibly more so.

This will most likely be my GOTY this year. Does anyone know which track will return?

Pretty sure the arena starting at 0:24 is Urban from Battle Cars. I like to think of it as Urban Mk. 2 though.

Nice catch! Looks like Urban or at least very similar.

So I’ve been excited for this sequel and was quite happy to see this news.
I’ve now watched the trailer and realised I’ve been excited about the wrong game. I thought it was the sequel to a almost top down micro machines style game. There was a beach and cars. Pretty sure it was on Plus years ago. Oh and i’m fairly certain it had a ridiculous name too. Any ideas?

I’m so glad you guys are covering one of the most competitive, fun and thrilling games I’ve ever played (I was an alpha and beta tester). Goes without saying that I’m looking forward to it!

Could you not do four player splitscreen in SARPEDERPYDERP? I seem to recall doing just that.
Still it’s nice to have for parties.

Anyone who played SARPBC for more than five minutes will be extremely excited by this.

QUESTION TIME: Will there be a tournament mode? Specifically for local multiplayer, as that would be fantastic when you’re more than four people.
And how does it differ gameplay-wise from it’s predecessor?

Awesome game and great fun in Multiplayer, online was a bit sketchy last time though (lots of lag), hopefully they’ll sort that out for Rocket league.

I would kill for a new Mashed game though. Mashed Reloaded was awesome on PS2.
