Community Round-Up: 18/04/15

It was another quiet seven days here on TSA, with just a handful of reviews and previews to get you through the week. The release schedule should pick up soon hopefully, but it’s quite a drought we’re having!

Until then, you’ll just have to make do for this week’s Community Round-Up!

Looking at the Meets, Monday will see the usual GT6 Meet, followed by Battlefield on Friday, with a few GTA V Heists meets thrown in also.

If you’d rather play something else, you can add your own Meet to the list, provided you have more than 250 TSA Points.

Beginning with the previews, and with just under two months until Formula 1’s first outing on the new-generation, Stefan had a look at how Codemasters are bringing it together.  He also spoke to Steven Embling, Game Designer about the challenges of the new consoles and releasing the game just before the season’s halfway point.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, a ‘walking simulator’ with added narrative that you have to discover through your exploration is set to be released later this year, and Tef “cannot wait to experience more of the enthrallingly melancholy world”. The last game he looked at this week was Shadow of the Beast, the remake of the 1898 game, which fans should definitely look forward to thanks to it’s passionate developer.

Looking at the Reviews now, and the top score award this week goes to Mortal Kombat X. Dom praised the rock-solid combat and impressive roster, giving it a 9/10, while Stefan gave an 8/10 to Titan Souls. It’s come a long way since it’s game jam conception, and it’s devilishly challenging gameplay results in a hate-it-or-love-it type of game. Lastly, and sitting on a 6/10 was Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today, a game that Aran says has a brilliant atmosphere that is let down by poor pacing and infuriating puzzles.

Also on TSA this week, Jim had a chat with the developers of  Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars developer about the sequel that should be arriving on PS4 very shortly, while Tuffcub took his first steps in PlanetSide 2’s Beta on PS4.

Sleepy Teflon and the Chronicle featured talk about the new Deus Ex, Black Ops III and The Witcher 3, while Towerfall: Ascension received a 50/50 split Verdict. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is having a mixed bag of responses, but there’s still time for you to change that by getting your comments in.

Rounding off the week, the Podcast included Teflon in Episode 175, while What We Played #199 featured Mortal Kombat, Monster Hunter & Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture.

Time for a quick check on the Forums to search for signs of life:

  • Carrot381 has tried out the Playstation Now Beta, and him and others have shared their thoughts
  • And the What Are You Playing thread is still going strong, with the latest talk being on the GTA Heists!

Well that’s it once again. Have a good week and I’ll be ready for you next time – bye!

  1. absolutely lovin’ the ps now beta.
    it works rather well.
a couple of jerky moments and even on 100 meg connection i have had a few issues,
some of the games work better than others, but hats off to sony ,if priced right i think this could be a winner!
oh btw what the fek is motorcycle club about..its an abomination.

    • Yes I’m surprised it works as well as it does now, still in closed beta. I’ve had one problem with a game save corruption on F1 2013, but no streaming issues really.

Latency hasn’t been a problem, except with Killzone 2 which was notorious for both relatively high latency controls and heavy feeling controls. Maybe they put that there as a example of worse case scenari, and it is still just about playable.

    • It does work which is the main thing but I thought the picture looked very washed out when I was playing Blood Dragon the other night. It’s quite a dark game anyway but I had to turn it off after 15 minutes. This and a slight but noticeable delayed button response, and I couldn’t go any further. I love the game (completed it on PS3) but I wasn’t finding the experience enjoyable at all on PS now (that’s with unlimited BT infinity2 / 76meg). Hopefully this is something that can be improved in the finished version.

I’m hoping to try a few more games over the next couple of days. It’s a great idea but in it’s current form, I’d still rather go out of my way to play a retail copy than stream a game on PS Now. It’s just not worth sacrificing visual quality or gameplay functionality, even a tiny bit.

  2. I keep seeing the title Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture title thinking it says Everybody’s Golf before taking a second look. Current gen needs an Everybody’s Golf!
