Take-Two Has Shipped Nearly 52 Million Copies Of GTA V, 2.5 Million Of Evolve

Breaking news out of Take-Two this week, as their most recent earnings report revealed that this game they publish by the name of ‘Grand Theft Auto’ is ridiculously popular. How popular? Take-Two says they’ve shipped almost 52 million copies to retailers worldwide.

Of course, not all of those have sold through to customers, so there’s a decent chance if you head to your local video game retailer, you’ll find 51 million copies sitting on the shelf or socked away in the back. On a serious note, another thing that doesn’t figure into that number is digital copies sold, which is bound to be quite large, particularly with the game just launching on PC.

On the other end of the spectrum for Take-Two is Evolve, a new franchise that just launched in February, and has shipped 2.5 million copies to retailers. I’d be curious to see what player counts look like these days, as it seems like hardly anyone kept talking about that game after the first two weeks, and it’s all but disappeared from charts in both of the two largest territories. That said, for a new franchise that’s basically multiplayer only, that still doesn’t seem bad.

  1. Evolve’s numbers are extraordinary considering the nature of the game. There have been many better games that have shipped far far less.

Gta as you would expect are impressive. Just prints money.

  2. GTA V is a monster of a game! If I could only have one game it would be that. Now all they need to do is throw in a zombie mode and it would be perfect! Until Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives of course.

  3. I wonder if Take Two will make another game or will they think the series has run it’s course.

    • I think there will be more, when they’re good and ready. Not sure we’ll see any episodic DLC, it’ll probably cost them a fortune to do it and match the quality of the main story, but then they must have a fortune to spend. I’d like to see a side story of the miserable rise and fall of Mr K, maybe he could take revenge on the FIB after not getting on a plane…

  4. I wonder how well all the DLC did for Evolve. I’m hoping not very well because it was an absurd amount for day 1.
