Hot on the heels of the news that Splatoon entered the UK charts at number two, Nintendo have released the first batch of new content for the third-person shooter which includes a new map, new modes and a new weapon.

Players can now gain access to the Port Mackerel map which, given all of the moving parts on display, looks like it could be a tricky little playground to navigate. The new content drop also features two new modes, the first of which is called Splat Zones and is being touted as this game’s version of ‘King of the Hill’, the second is Ranked Battle Mode which will be available to players who are level 10 or over. Finally, there is a new gun to play around with which takes its design inspiration from the classic NES Zapper light gun. The N-Zap ’85 is a rapid fire gun which looks like it will be very tricky to dodge.
It’s great to see some new content so soon after the launch of the game, and Nintendo have promised that there will be regular content updates for the title. It seems that Splatoon is going to have some longevity given the commitment that Nintendo have to the new IP.

I love that this is a thing already. I’m hoping Nintendo have decided to ease people into the game with loads of content lined up for the next few months.

There’s at least two more maps coming pretty soon, as there’s already pictures and video footage of them.
I got a pair of Inkling amiibo today, and look forward to trying the new map today. Hopefully we’ll get three maps in the rotation soon as well.

Still waiting for my pre-order. Apparently it was out of stock but has now been dispatched and will arrive Friday. Can’t wait.
