UPDATE: EA Announce Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 For Spring 2016 Release

Having started out as an Xbox exclusive, it was only fitting that Peter Moore took to the stage at Microsoft’s presser in order to announce a sequel to the popular Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.

Kitted out with an array of new plants and zombies to play as, with examples during the trailer including a sweetcorn plant, a rose plant and zombies in superhero garb and mech suits, the game is set for release some time in spring 2016. There was no mention of exclusivity, timed or otherwise, and with the YouTube trailer description mentioning PlayStation 4 and PC as well as Xbox One, it would seem that this is a multi-platform release from the beginning.

Update: Following on the announcement at Microsoft’s conference, EA naturally went into more depth at their own show a few hours later. There are set to be six new character classes, adding to the existing roster, demonstrated within the gameplay reveal.

Playing a level at Zomboss Factory, this was the first time that the zombies have been able to play in a co-op mode, Graveyard Ops, taking the same kind of gameplay as from the plant co-op of the original and simply sticking zombies in it. It was also a good opportunity to show off the Imp, Superbrains and Captain Deathbeard characters. The Imp is the fastest character, and can call in a powerful mechsuit to wear, while Captain Deathbeard is the zombies’ first sniper.

They also announced a new solo mode, another oft-requested feature within the community, that you can import much of your progress from the original game and, just as with the original, that it would be heavily supported with free content updates after launch.
