Media Molecule Unveil Dreams, A Surreal Creative Experience

Media Molecule are tackling dreams with their next title, once again focusing on creating and sharing as they previously tackled in LittleBigPlanet. This time around, it’s a lot more artsy, seeing players create beautiful dreamscapes using the built-in tools.

It looks like you’ll be able to create a lot of different things, and the art style is simply wonderful, a mix of claymation, puppeteering and oil paintings. You’ll use the Dualshock 4 to effectively paint these scenes, and who knows what people will come up with.

  1. So is this a animation studio for your ps4?

  2. It looks like they’ll require the use of a PS4 camera. I gave up several years ago buying PlayStation peripherals.

    • We’ll see but I don’t think it looks that way at all. Require? The DS4 does motion stuff like that without the camera, like in Tearaway Unfolded for instance and the lighting mechanic.

      • Oh good – i wasn’t the only one with that impression! :)

    • I got the impression that it didn’t need the camera but instead relied on the motion-sensing function of the DS4. It seemed that way when i watched last night but i could be wrong as it was way past my bedtime.

Being a fan of puppetry this is a dream come true for me but i expect a lot of people will be wondering.. where is the game?

  3. Seems like there would be a lot of work involved to get anywhere near this level of detail in the vid above.

I’m not sure I’d be able to invest that kind of time in a game like this any more but it does look interesting. I’m sure we’ll be seeing some incredibly made/directed shorts in the future as we did with LBP.

LBP proved there are a lot of talented people out there and it’s great that there are games like this to put their creative minds at work.
