In amongst the more serious games, we shouldn’t forget the importance of the Just Dance franchise for Ubisoft. Taking to the stage at E3, they were quick to announce that Just Dance has become the biggest music videogame franchise of all time so it’s no surprise that Just Dance 2016 will release this October for all of the major console platforms – and the Nintendo Wii.
Ubisoft have taken away one of the key barriers to entry for the series by removing the need for a camera or motion controllers, instead allowing the use of your smartphone as a controller. Given the ubiquity of modern smartphones this could be a huge bonus to fans, particularly for multiplayer gaming at parties.
Ubisoft also announced a brand new subscription service for PS4, Xbox One and Wii U called Just Dance Unlimited which is a dance-on-demand streaming service. The monthly subscription fee will ensure new content throughout the year.

Jason Derulo was amazingly bad.

I really want to like this and have bought both 2013 and 2014 versions, but the camera recognition is disappointingly bad, and it won’t even pick up my almost-4-year-old daughter, who’s only about 40 inches tall. Surely these things should be fundamental for a dancing game that identifies how closely your moves match those of the onscreen dancer(s)?
I very much doubt they’ve improved things any more this time around, but if they have, then this will be a welcome addition.
