It’s Officially Time To Give Up On Seeing Project CARS On The Wii U

In extended and oft delayed development process that went out of its way to target the heights of the most powerful PCs and the latest consoles from Microsoft and Sony, the Wii U version of Project CARS has always felt a little out of place. If Slightly Mad Studios could consider targeting the Wii U, then why not also the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 which had comparable levels of performance?

For those crossing their fingers and toes for the last few years and waiting with bated breath, it’s time to give up the dream. Having already admitted a couple of months back that the Wii U version of the game was coming in with under 30fps and that to reach a playable frame rate they would have to make serious cuts to the game, SMS studio head Ian Bell has now put the Wii U version to rest with the following statement to Nintendo Life:

The official line is that we’re awaiting an announcement from Nintendo on new hardware. As of now pCARS is simply too much for the Wii U.

Of course, with the NX still some way off – rumoured for release some time in 2016 – and Project CARS 2 already being crowdfunded, it might well be that the first game doesn’t ever come to grace a Nintendo console.

  1. Not surprised really, especially as they’ve already started working on it’s sequel.
