Splatoon’s August Content Update Dated & Detailed

Splatoon’s much anticipated “August Update” has finally been dated by Nintendo Japan, and it’s under two weeks away – with the company’s twitter page confirming the content will roll out next Thursday, August 6th.

The translated tweet, alongside a helpful bit of PR from Nintendo tells us the free update will include many things fans of the game have been asking for since its launch – increased level caps (Level 50, Rank S+), new gear, “tag match” and private lobbies.
Still out to sea, however, is the addition of in-game party chat, with Nintendo, perhaps sensibly, choosing to protect Splatoon’s younger player-base from the vocal community you’ll find alongside other console shooters, such as COD. Kids, Squids, COD – I can’t keep up.

The Splatoon twitter account has also posted today to announce that for a couple of days prior to this content drop the Urchin Underpass map will disappear from rotation for “maintenance”. After this period (3-5 Aug) the stage will return, although presumably with a slight redesign.

  1. Level 50? Damn, I’m still only level 11!

  2. Perhaps they’ll add voice chat to the friends only mode or something. But it does require CPU time which they may already be using elsewhere .

But they need to make the idol presentation at the start skipable or an opt-out thing. Letting the player watch them at their own leisure by visiting a point in the plaza.
