YouGov have polled the British public and have revealed Britain’s favourite video game which is Candy Crush, thanks to an awful lot of lady gamer’s – who made up 41% of the 3,300 pollsters – enjoying a blast of sweet crushing fun.
The top “game” for men – and they’re using the term loosely to include entire franchises – is Grand Theft Auto. The majority of older gamers also voted for Candy with the younger players enjoying The Sims.
| Total ▴ | Men | Women | |
| Candy Crush | 11.3 | 3.4 | 24.3 |
| Grand Theft Auto | 10.6 | 12.6 | 6.5 |
| Fifa | 7.5 | 11.5 | 1.5 |
| Call of Duty | 7.1 | 9.4 | 3.8 |
| The Sims | 7.0 | 3.1 | 13.8 |
| Civilization | 6.5 | 9.5 | 1.8 |
| Mario Kart | 6.4 | 6.0 | 6.9 |
| Super Mario | 5.8 | 6.1 | 6.1 |
| Tomb Raider | 5.8 | 6.5 | 4.9 |
| Tetris | 5.4 | 3.6 | 8.4 |
| Champ/Football Manager | 5.3 | 8.3 | 0.4 |
| Pac-Man | 3.8 | 3.3 | 3.8 |
| Final Fantasy | 3.5 | 3.5 | 2.7 |
| Space Invaders | 3.5 | 3.7 | 2.5 |
| Sonic | 3.5 | 2.5 | 4.8 |
| Zelda | 3.1 | 2.6 | 4.3 |
Of course it’s a load of tosh, who plays Pac-Man or Space Invaders any more? Where is Destiny, World of Warcraft, Skylanders or the LEGO games? However, it does indicate just how popular mobile gaming is, whether or not you consider a quick flick of Candy Crush enough for someone to be classed as a “gamer” is another discussion.

I think they’re classing anyone 40 and over as “older” gamers.
So in an attempt to sound younger, I shall declare their poll to be a big smelly poo.
I possibly went a bit too young there, didn’t I?
