Destiny’s Levelling System To Change, Nolan North Cast As Ghost In Taken King

A few changes are coming in Destiny and expansion The Taken King, with the most prominent being the new levelling system. Bungie has decided on implementing a more traditional system where XP gained feeds directly into how quickly you level up, with look now providing extra boosts on top of the level. The new system will take affect whether you’re a level one or closing in on the new level 40 cap. Destiny will also check your inventory so more varied loot drops occur, meaning you shouldn’t get the same item lots of times in a row.

In other Destiny news Peter Dinklage is out and Nolan North is in as the voice of the Ghost, with the voice actor set to take over the role for The Taken King. Nolan North has also re-recorded Peter Dinklage’s old work so there is consistency within Destiny. This means Dinklage’s voiceover will be essentially scrubbed from the game at some point.

  1. All this sounds like some great steps in the right direction for Destiny, but what worries me is the announcement that gear from Year One won’t increase in stats throughout Year Two. I could accept this if it were items up to Legendary value, but if Exotics won’t have a continued evolution as the game progresses I’d be very disappointed.

    • The source mentions not being able to carry your legendaries forward, so I imagine exotics will still be upgradable. Especially as they are specifically patching a lot of the exotics, makes no sense to do so of they are to become redundant.

It seems a shame to lose the old faithful’s like Fatebringer, but I understand the logic. Roll on Sept!

      • I hope so! Couldn’t bear to stop using The Last Word, my favourite gun by far! Will be a shame to part ways with some great Legendary guns (for me it would be Corrective Measure) but I would hope some of the new Legendary weapons would quickly fill the void.

  2. How does the levelling up system work now then? Is that not from shooting stuff? Whats the difference with xp then?

    • It sounds like a more traditional levelling system, the same way you reach level 20. If light becomes meaningless though, I wonder if that means we will all drop back to level 20, or will it take our current light level into account?

    • Oh sorry, I misread your post. Currently, to hit level 20 you shoot stuff and complete missions for XP. Beyond level 20, you have a light level that can be increased to 34, but this can only be done by equipping end-game armour. The higher your armour pieces combined light level, the higher your own.

  3. Was discussing this last night – In that it seems pretty mental to be making these changes now.

Seems like the sort of thing that would get changed at the end of the first month, not year.

  4. Seems a bit odd to effectively shut down legendaries from year one when so many people only joined recently and are working to get the raid weapons.

Also in my eyes it doesn’t really mesh with this whole trying to get people to play their “endgame” content if the rewards are useless trophies taking up space in your already limited vault space…

I was going to go for a celebratory Birthday Raid tonight.. Probably still will but takes the shine off it a little…

    • It is a bit odd, but I get it – They really don’t want year one weapons dominating past the 2/3 year mark. There would be no need to grind for new weapons then. Much like I don’t see the need to defeat Skolas now for a slight chance at an inferior weapon to stuff I already have.

I think the main point here is enjoy what is there now & if you are taking the plunge on TTK, enjoy what is presented then. No point trying to anticipate what may come in the future when stuff you can do now is still relevant now.

Also, I hope to do some Prisons tonight, but could be up for a Vault of Glass depending on the time it is likely to go down. The prisons would take preference (as armour cores & etheric light are still pretty valuable to me), but a millionth shot at finally getting that Vision of Confluence wouldn’t go amiss either. ;)

      Oh, & happy birthday?

    • Happy Birthday,have a gud-en

  5. It had its faults but I miss Destiny… :(
Can see this game evolving a lot over the coming years.
