Rise Of The Tomb Raider Gameplay Enters Stealth Mode

Crystal Dynamics showed off some new Rise Of The Tomb Raider footage where Lara is sneaking around a small village that has been overrun by a group known as Trinity. In the footage Lara uses things like bottles to distract guards so she can get through places without entering a fight, but soon enough things go south and the bows and guns are out.

More tombs will be in Rise Of The Tomb Raider, with hopefully more on offer than the reboot. Before the footage began there was a voiceover saying Xbox Exclusive, which is a bit misleading since it is only a timed exclusive and will be available on PC and PS4 next year.

  1. I could be wrong but thought SE said the MS money would help them develop it, etc etc, but it doesn’t look that different from the first game. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the reboot so will pick this up on PS4 when it arrives.

More tombs, with puzzle solving and exploration would be welcome too.

  2. The village gameplay looked very much like the reboot, not particularly what I wanted to see, though it looked better graphically. Time for Lara to get her old/new classic outfit on though!

  3. It seems very much like TR once again is the side dish (probably enlarged and improved a bit) and guerilla warfare is the main dish; what have they done to her?!?

  4. A few things stood out for me… Targeting two enemies with one shot, swimming underwater (hopefully there are actual swimming parts), larger open areas to explore and the Last of Us style crafting system.

Overall I’m liking what I see but there are a few issues. The environments I’ve seen so far look very similar to the first game. The snowy levels are welcome but I was hoping for a bit more variety.

The reboot was dark and gloomy which I didn’t mind as it was different from the Tomb Raider games we were used to. But Based on what we’ve seen so far, the sequel looks like it’s going for a similar feel. I didn’t mind that the reboot went a bit dark but I don’t want every Tomb Raider from now on to be drab and gloomy. We haven’t seen much so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Also when did Lara become posessed by Ezio? Leaping out of a tree and knifing that goon seemed a bit out of character to me… Lara’s Creed.

    • Mass-killer Lara still seems a bit off.

      • Breaks down after killing a deer. Is fine after killing 600 men.

  5. Hopefully there’s more actual Tomb Raiding this time round. Not really a fan of how they changed it to feel more action based, threw in those QTE and had far less exploration/puzzle elements.

There was nothing better than being lost deep underground for hours on end, trying to figure out how to reach a certain ledge, solving puzzles and finding out what certain levers did/statues placed on blocks etc, or swimming underwater to find a hidden tunnel.

I felt a lot of the magic was lost in the last title myself.

  6. Assassin’s Uncharted.

    • Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

  7. The dive-slaughter move and the hitting two targets at once with a bow just don’t seem right. Not hugely impressed by that location but i’m looking forward to seeing the tombs, and raiding them.

  8. Looked like more Tomb Raider to me, with a more open level design. I’m in.

  9. I like the bushes.
Look forward to the PS4 version.
