“One of things I, and many other fans, loved about SARPBC was its diverse stock of stadiums,” said Jim in our 9/10 review of Rocket League. “Each was different in shape and size, forcing players to alter their tactics accordingly. In Rocket League, however, there is zero variation to be had apart from aesthetics. Each of the current stadiums are of similar size and completely flat.”
Good news Jim – and everyone else – weird and wonderful maps will be coming to Rocket League.
“We wanted to start with the standard fields this time because we wanted to make sure everyone understood what the base game was, how we see the standard Rocket League experience being,” said Psyonix President Dave Hagewood.
“We also wanted to promote competitive play in the game, and people who want extremely balanced competitive play and ranked modes and things like that, without adding a lot of extra noise. But we know the majority of players aren’t super competitive, they just want to have a good time—and we have a great time with the crazy different maps and so on. So we already have some of those in production to roll out later on.”
Dave went on to say that the next map released will probably be a standard flat map, and then the crazy stadiums will follow.

Hurray! Great news.

This is of course great news (& something I have said that I have wanted since first playing the game), but the bit that concerns me slightly is that there appears to be no ‘when’ mentioned. My concern being that the game will likely be platinumed & deleted for space long before these ever materialise.
Ah well, guess I can’t really complain when I got it for free anyway (sort of)

I don’t really do trophies. This will always be on my PS4

Deleted for space is the more pertinent part there. I’m struggling a bit & I don’t play it all that often.
Granted, that could all change with this, but I can’t hold on in that hope with absolutely no idea when these are expected to arrive.

It’s only about 3 or 4GB installed. Is that really taking up so much space you’ll need to delete it? If so, perhaps you should have installed a larger HDD.
Forrest_01
Yep – Literally any space I can claw back is a god send at the moment.
… & yes, if I had realised before even switching on my PS4 for the first time that lots of games this gen would be breaching the 50GB mark in terms of space, it probably would have been a good idea to upgrade before even playing anything.
Not doing it now though – Although the long term benefits would probably outweigh the short term, I just can’t be arsed downloading all that stuff again/waiting for all that stuff to download again! ;)

@Forrest
Just to chime in, I recently upgraded to a 2TB HDD and haven’t looked back. I was surprised at how painless the process was, as I was able to re-download all of my PSN games (well over 100 in total) in less than two weeks. The best part is that even with all of those games, plus a decent amount of retail games currently installed, I still have 1TB of free space. I’d definitely recommend upgrading if you get the chance!

I’ve been considering upgrading for a long time too but have the same mind set of dreading all the downloads I would need to do.
Instead I should just download what I want when I want it, my internet’s not terrible.
On the subject of Rocket League, this is exactly what I want from this game. It’s still fun as hell but a few extra crazy maps would mix this up nicely.

@stefhutch20
That’s all well & good (& thanks for chiming in to confirm it was pretty painless), but two bloody weeks??? No thank you!
I want my stuff naow!! :D

Awesome, can’t wait!
