Later this month, Samurai Warriors 4 will receive a second spin-off with the launch of Empires on September 17th. For those unfamiliar with the popular hack and slash series, developer Omega Force is known to expand each numbered instalment by adding new mechanics and content. Although combat is still the core focus, in Empires players can build and expand their own kingdom, recruiting officers and employing a more tactical approach to battles.
As seen below in new footage from Famitsu and PlayStation Blog Japan, SW4E adheres to this same format. There have been some notable changes however with fans requesting the return of features from older Empires titles. Having drafted in talent from the Nobunaga’s Ambition team, this newest game will have a greater focus on domestic and policy-setting features.
Tecmo Koei has yet to release any solid details surrounding a western release. It does seem likely, however, and should be expected to launch on PlayStation systems some time next Spring.
Until then, we have Samurai Warriors 4-II to look forward to which is due out in a few weeks’ time.
