Bloodborne Is Getting A Game Of The Year Edition Alongside The Old Hunters

Bloodborne was a big hit for Sony and From Software at the start of the year, bringing the Dark Souls creators back to the console family on which they first tested their distinctive brand of ultra-difficult action RPG gaming.

Tokyo Game Show saw the announcement of a new expansion for the game called The Old Hunters, set to release on November 24th, with new environments, new (old) hunters to face off against, more weaponry and the ability to lose yourself and transform into a beast yourself.

However, Sony are also bundling this together with the main game – with the DLC on the disc itself –  in a new retail package they are quite mystifyingly calling “Bloodborne Game of the Year Edition”. While I’m quite sure that someone, somewhere is going to hand out a GOTY award to Bloodborne in any of several categories, as far as I’m aware, Bloodborne has not been given such an award.

It has been nominated in several categories for the Golden Joystick Awards, which are set to take place on October 30th, but cannot have actually won in any of the categories until that point. Most websites and magazines will be waiting until at least early December and the final throes of this year’s release schedule before starting to publish their Game of the Year lists.

While there’s more than a few Game of the Year editions that are released where you think to yourself, “Who awarded that game a GOTY?”, to the best of my knowledge, these always come in the next calendar year. So help me out if you can, and tell us of any examples of this situation happening before?

  1. Maybe the fans awarded it? I would award, hell its got my vote. Best game of the year for me.

    • Mine too! I don’t think we can blame Sony much for jumping the gun a bit here, especially considering some of the chaff that has inexplicably been given GOTY editions in the past.

      • The Golden Joystick Awards are exactly that. Games are nominated in various categories and then voted on by the public.

  2. More importantly, who is contemplating NOT awarding Bloodborne goty – i want names!!!

  3. Seems a bit premature. However, having passed up the original version, I can’t help but feel that this benefits me.
